Job Summary
The Physical Therapist is responsible to provide physical therapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and implementation, staff consultation, and group visit participation. Assist customers (un'ina) who have injury, illness, or de-conditioned state to improve their movement, manage their pain, and contribute to their overall wellness employing a variety of treatment modalities. Direction of the Physical Therapy Assistant in implementing physical therapy treatment plans, and collaborates with Fitness staff with the goal of preventing un'ina's loss of mobility by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs to encourage healthier choices and more active lifestyles.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results, and determining physical therapy treatment plans in collaboration with the integrated care team
- Assist un'ina to accomplish treatment plan by prescribing and supervising therapeutic treatment modalities, providing instruction, and adjusting plan at various stages to achieve maximum benefit
- Obtain un'ina informed consent to proposed interventions including risks, benefits, and any reasonable alternatives
- Advise Fitness personnel regarding individual treatment plans and maintain collaborative communication
- Develop and conduct in-service training programs for wellness and integrated care team staff
- Provide un'ina with information or resources as requested, and facilitate warm transfer/referral to appropriate care team member
- Effectively utilize electronic health record to document physical therapy and wellness services
- Provide un'ina-centered action planning utilizing motivational interviewing principles
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
- Participate in care team training and learning activities
- Provide input into fitness- and wellness-oriented program planning, implementation, educational support resources, and evaluation with an emphasis on best practice guidelines and wellness promotion
- Maintain a personal level of physical, mental and spiritual wellness appropriate to serve as a role model

Education
- Minimum of Masters of Physical Therapy degree.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience in physical therapy evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Experience with computerized management information systems.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and 42 CFR, Part 2 regulations.
- Knowledge and experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian people preferred.
- Able to provide courteous, collaborative and culturally-honoring service to all un'ina, staff and visitors, and must be a team player.
Preferred
- Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
License/Certification
- Licensed as a Physical Therapist in Alaska or obtain within three (3) months of hire
- CPR and AED certification
- Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy, or obtain within 90 days of hire, or, with approval of the hiring manager, sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in lieu of having a driver's license to perform the required duties of the position (If Applicable)
Special Skills
- Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to organize, establish priorities, follow-up on details, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal communications, public speaking and presentation skills.
