Job SummaryThe Tribal Operations Director acts in a key leadership role within Kenaitze Indian Tribe whose primary responsibility is the oversight of Tribal Administration operations. The Director provides guidance to the Executive Director in strategic planning, goals, initiatives and structure in alignment with KIT's values and vision. The Director reports to the Executive Director, and responds to budgetary and performance measures, achievement of goals and strategies, and results of monitoring functions.
EssentialFunctions
- Implements all policies adopted by the Tribal Council
- Informs the Tribal Council accurately and fully regarding Tribal Administration programs
- Responsible to design, implement, maintain and present key measures of organizational performance and recommendations where warranted on potential changes in policy to improve performance on key measures
- Responsible for execution of the strategic plan recommended to and adopted by the Tribe's management, i.e. responsible to meet targets in the plan and to implement and share with the council performance on strategic plan metrics
- Designs and implements an effective internal communication system
- Builds and maintains an operation management team that identifies and resolves issues/problems
- Develops and modifies as needed an effective operations organizational structure
- Hires, supervises, directs, mentors and develops/improves skills of staff in the performance of their duties in collaboration with the Executive Director
- Provides overall control and direction for the personnel function of the Tribe, including active participation in or approval of personnel actions
- Evaluates the services provided by the Tribe in relation to specified goals and standards, recommends modifications where appropriate
- Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Working Conditions Lifting Requirements- Sedentary work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Finance or related field, or a combination of education and experience in a related field may be substituted for a degree - Experience:
Five (5) years of supervisory and management experience - License/Certification/Requirements:
Must have a valid driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy, or obtain an Alaska State driver's license within 90 days of hire - Preferred:
Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire
- Effective problem solving, negotiation, conflict management and leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communications, public speaking, and presentation skills;
Ability to hold staff accountable and to motivate and develop them to do their job effectively and efficiently - Solid working knowledge of budgeting and grants management
- Solid working knowledge of accreditation standards and implementation
- Aligned with Kenaitze Indian Tribe's history, governance structure, subsistence, Tribal enrollment, and cultural heritage, as well as factors impacting sovereignty and self-governance
- Knowledge of legal, political, social, cultural and economic issues of the Kenaitze Indian Tribe
