Overview
In the role of Area Market Sector Leader for HDR’s Water Business Group, you will help shape how communities manage water for generations to come. Your work will support public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience through delivering safe drinking water, treating wastewater, developing sustainable supplies, and protecting lives through flood control. You will lead change, drive progress, and leave a lasting legacy.
Responsibilities- Staff Development
- Recruit, select, train, develop, and manage technical personnel.
- Manage and develop multidisciplinary teams.
- Supervise senior engineers and business‑class leaders (2‑8 people).
- Technical Excellence
- Participate in delivery of project services through planning, design, and construction phases to meet client expectations, including project management.
- Function as a project manager and lead critical area and regional projects.
- Ensure all work is planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated through proactive project management.
- Support development of technical experts.
- Engage in business‑class practice, professional discipline groups, project teams, and activities to improve standards and best practices, and implement effective quality assurance and control reviews.
- Conduct or assist in quality assurance and control reviews as appropriate.
- Operations Leadership
- Implement, monitor, and support company policy.
- Take responsibility for operations including utilization, morale, quality control, and marketing support.
- Handle administrative responsibilities for section staff and technical service functions, and coordinate services with other sections.
- Oversee area coordination, monitor and improve technical competencies of business‑class staff and products.
- Collaborate on business‑class efforts with area operations, marketing, project managers, and project delivery staff.
- Marketing and Strategy
- Drive vision and strategic planning for market sector disciplines.
- Be involved in marketing planning, proposals, and interviews.
- Develop and lead technical and marketing initiatives.
- Engage directly with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production, and related issues.
- Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts.

Primary Responsibilities:
In‑person participation in office on a weekly basis.
- 5+ years water resources leadership experience including staff supervisory experience.
- Professional registration or license.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.
- Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, planning, or a related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
- Experience in development and management of strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
- Experience in development and management of a wide range of client relationships and specific program and/or project pursuits.
- Experience in overall staff development to include recruiting, career path and professional growth.
- Experience with industry associations and maintains a visible profile in the market sector.
- Ability to work cooperatively with Regional Market Sector Directors, Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, Area Business Group Managers, Area Marketing Managers, and Area Managers.
