Job Description
Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse 1 (PA/APRN
1) at the Wildwood Correctional Center (WCC) in Kenai, AK. The role involves caring for the emergent, urgent, and chronic health needs of inmates within a correctional facility clinic, in coordination with nursing staff, behavior‑health professionals, and social workers. The provider serves as liaison between the facility, local physicians, and hospitals, and prescribes Schedule II–V medications as authorized by state licensure and the Alaska Board of Nursing or the Alaska Medical Board.
- Deliver patient‑centered medical care to inmates, addressing acute, urgent, and chronic conditions.
- Coordinate care with nursing staff, mental health professionals, and social workers.
- Provide oversight and support to nursing and other support staff, ensuring a safe and effective environment.
- Act as liaison with local physicians, hospitals, and community resources.
- Prescribe and manage controlled substances in accordance with state laws and DEA regulations.
- Licensed Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
- Proficiency in diagnosis and treatment of injuries, diseases, and preventive health care.
- Knowledge of public health principles and infection prevention.
- Experience using medical technologies, computers, and electronic health records.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
Eligibility to practice as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Alaska. Conditional hiring may be offered to candidates not yet licensed, pending proof of licensure prior to final appointment.
Background investigation and fingerprinting required. Applicants must be free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at hire and may be screened annually. Certain positions require DEA registration and registration with the Alaska Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. Maintenance of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Basic Life Support, National Provider Identifier number, and other relevant certifications may be required.
