Job Summary:

Marathon Petroleum Company’s Kenai Refinery is currently looking for a full-time Refinery Inspector for the Inspection Group in the Maintenance Department. The position is the primary contact for support associated with fixed equipment integrity related issues on process equipment and piping. The Area Inspector is responsible for ensuring fixed equipment is in compliance with state regulations, refining standards, and specifications. This role works closely with operations and maintenance to identify issues and mitigate mechanical integrity risks.

The available schedule for the position is Monday - Thursday 7 AM - 5:30 PM, with after‑hour calls required several times a year and support of Turnarounds (TAR) every three years.

• Perform and/or coordinate fixed equipment inspections for process equipment and piping required by site mechanical integrity and inspection programs.
• Develop and execute inspection plans and life‑cycle management for refining equipment based on service, design, condition, jurisdictional requirements, temporary repairs and equipment replacements, Turnaround dates, and inspection history; prioritize and plan work within the assigned area team.
• Provide scope and supporting documentation (justification, timing, preparations, etc.) for fixed equipment mechanical integrity related work to Maintenance (Routine, Major Maintenance, Turnarounds, etc.).
• Document inspection records, findings, and recommendations in Marathon’s Inspection Data Management System (IDMS); complete all required documentation and interpret and apply industry and RAGAGEP codes and specifications; develop, revise, and maintain comprehensive inspection procedures, guidelines, and work instructions.
• Understand critical process variables that affect equipment reliability, identify gaps, and lead gap‑closure effort; generate and provide repair/upgrade recommendations based on findings, options, and risk assessments in conjunction with the area team and other departments on site.
• Provide training in the required areas of responsibility as identified by the Inspection Supervisor.
• Serve as Program Manager for special emphasis projects supporting the site mechanical integrity program.
• Review and apply Management of Change (MOC) requirements and ensure all Process Safety Management (PSM) elements are implemented.

Education, Experience, and Skills

• Must have a high school diploma or GED (completed prior to start date).
• Must have both API 510 and API 570 certifications.
• Must have a minimum of three (3) years inspection experience in fixed equipment, reliability, and/or maintenance in a refinery, petro‑chemical, or other heavy industry.
• Must be familiar with Risk Based Inspection (RBI) strategy based on API‑580/581.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), perform all field tasks physically, and pass a hair drug test and physical.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must have steady employment history.
• Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
• Travel requirement is 5 % or less.
• Must be able to work Monday – Thursday 7 AM – 5:30 PM, with after‑hour calls required several times a year and TAR support every three years.

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Mechanical Technology, Corrosion Technology, Welding Technology, or Non‑Destructive Evaluation (NDT).
• API 653, 571, 580, and/or 581 certifications.
• CWI/AWS/SW certifications.
• ANST Level II (UTT, RTFI, MT, PT) certifications.
• More than three (3) years of experience as a refinery inspector working with industry‑related codes.
• Extensive experience and understanding of RBI inspection strategies based on API‑580/581.
• Experience with IDMS software such as APM and RBMI.
