Position: Cook II, Seasonal - Marathon Project ($20/hr+ DOE - Kenai, AK)

Job Description

This Seasonal Cook II prepares and services high-quality menu items within a 20-foot mobile food trailer, serving Marathon Refinery personnel and workers. This position involves daily food preparation, smoking meats, fryer and flat-top cooking, cashiering/POS, and customer services duties in a fast-paced environment.

This is a seasonal position working in Kenai, AK at the Marathon Refinery. Project duration is March 1 - May 5, 2026, plus a couple days for shut down. Preference given to candidates living in the Kenai/Soldotna/Nikiski areas. NMS housing provided for candidates living outside the preferred hiring area. Smoking is prohibited on Marathon Refinery and NMS provided housing.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for quantity and quality control in food production as well as overall sanitation of assigned areas.
  • Reviews the needs of the day with assigned supervisor(s), completes production sheets, verifies supply needs and availability.
  • Observes and instructs others on the proper rotation (FIFO) procedures to be followed for all food related items.
  • Follows all Food Safety Standards (HACCP).
  • Completes all freezer, cooler and warming temperature and sanitation logs.
  • Supports an active safety program.
  • Prepare and cook all menu items including smoked meats and sandwiches.
  • Operate smoker, fryers, flat top, and oven.
  • Breakfast and lunch production (and 24-hour service in later phase).
  • Provide customer service and operate Clover POS.
  • Run credit card transactions and handle cash.
  • Greet guests and provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist with water tank filling and propane monitoring.
  • Maintain cleanliness and food safety standards.
  • Weekly inventory of supplies both on trailer and offsite.
  • Conduct supply pick-ups as needed.
  • Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must have High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have, at least, two (2) years of documented experience operating as a Cook II.
  • Must have knowledge and training in using a variety of food production equipment.
  • Must have Alaska Food Handlers Card or Serv Safe certification contingent upon 30 days of hire.
  • Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under the NMS vehicle insurance policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Serv Safe Certified Manager certification.
  • Two (2) years of food truck and/or mobile food trailer cooking experience.

Description of environment:
This is a mobile food trailer located on the premises of an oil refinery parking lot.

Physical requirements:

Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel:
May be required to drive, up to, 25% of workday.
