Heavy-Duty Shop Mechanic
Job Summary:
The Heavy‑Duty Shop Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of heavy‑duty vehicles and non‑mobile equipment within the AEQ shop environment. This role supports safe, efficient, and reliable operation of equipment through accurate troubleshooting, timely repairs, and adherence to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
Equipment serviced includes rough‑terrain cranes, vacuum trucks, fuel trucks, vacuum trailers, tractor‑trailers, lowboy trailers, winch tractors, super suckers, scissor lifts, telescopic boom lifts, telehandlers, skid steers, front‑end loaders, dozers, excavators, forklifts, motor graders, Ford pickup trucks, air compressors, engines, heaters, light plants, and generators.
Essential Duties- Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on a wide range of heavy‑duty vehicles and non‑mobile equipment.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on equipment including the aforementioned types.
- Repair, service, and replace major components and systems such as engines, transmissions, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, centrifugal pumps, electrical systems, braking systems, suspension, and steering components.
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble equipment and components using appropriate tools and equipment (hoists, hand tools, pneumatic tools, power tools).
- Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) services, including lubrication, oil changes, and filter replacements, per schedules and manufacturer specifications.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and after‑treatment systems to ensure emissions compliance.
- Operate vehicles and equipment for diagnostic evaluation, troubleshooting, and post‑repair testing to verify functionality and safety.
- Maintain accurate service records and document inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including proper care and accountability of tools and shop equipment.
- Monitor, manage, and request inventory of parts, materials, and shop supplies to support maintenance operations.
- Collaborate with supervisors, operators, and other team members to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
- Adjust work schedules and hours as required to meet project demands and operational needs.
- Support AES zero‑incident safety culture and assume personal accountability for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid U.S. issued Driver’s License.
- NSTC safety training certification.
- Ability to work 84 hours a week on a 3×3 rotation.
- At least five (5) years of experience as a Heavy‑Duty Mechanic performing maintenance and repairs on the specified equipment.
- Proficient experience with diagnostic software programs Prosis, Volvo Tech Tool, Cat ET, and/or Cummins Insite.
- Five (5) or more years of experience working as a Heavy‑Duty Mechanic in the Petrochemical or Oil and Gas industry, on the North Slope, and/or in arctic environments.
- Valid U.S. issued Alaska‑compliant Class B CDL.
