Technology Specialist - Field Technician
LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking a Telecommunications specialist to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in maintaining and upgrading National Airspace System (NAS) infrastructure. This role requires travel across Alaska to install, upgrade, and remove telecommunications and infrastructure-related equipment at FAA sites. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with installing and commissioning telecommunications systems, electrical installation, and light construction work.
Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions may include, but are not limited to, the following
- Conduct work involving network telecommunications equipment, at FAA sites.
- Perform light construction and electrical work (site preparation work) to support telecommunications infrastructure upgrades.
- Perform small‑scale trenching using hand tools and light equipment (e.g., mini‑excavators, skid steers, trenchers, drills, compactors).
- Conduct technical site surveys and develop survey reports and support the development of installation plans in coordination with FAA stakeholders.
- Provide technical support for voice-grade, data‑comm, digital, and IP telecommunications cutovers.
- Ensure compliance with FAA safety standards and Government telecommunications regulations.
Maintain and provide detailed documentation of as-built installations, repairs, and site conditions.
Required QualificationsBachelors degree plus 2 years or 6+ years of experience in telecommunications, field service, infrastructure installation, or light construction.
Proficiency in light construction, trenching, and low voltage (120V and below) electrical installation.
Strong understanding of telecommunications infrastructure and networking fundamentals.
Ability to work in a dynamic environment.
Ability to work in and around critical operational equipment.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Alaska
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or with a team
PreferredFAA or federal telecommunications installation experience, especially at remote FAA facilities.
Experience with microwave, Wireless LTE, VSAT, or VoIP telecommunications.
Knowledge of FAA communications systems, safety protocols, and regulations.
Certifications in safety, fiber optics, or network systems.
A journeyman electrician's license.
Work Requirements and Additional InformationMust be eligible to obtain necessary clearances to work, including FAA suitability and U.S. Government public trust clearance.

Up to 60% travel required to remote field sites throughout Alaska - Work Hours:
40 - Travel: 90% - 100%
- Background check:
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance, which requires US Citizenship. - Physical Requirements:
- Ability to hike to remote sites, climb ladders or structures, work at heights if required, and operate in harsh environmental conditions, including extreme cold, wind, and variable weather.
- Occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds may be required during installations or maintenance.
