What You Will Do

We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Sandblaster / Coater to join our team in the Kenai area. This role is responsible for preparing surfaces through abrasive blasting and applying industrial protective coatings to tanks, vessels, piping, structural steel, and other equipment to meet client specifications and industry standards (NACE/SSPC). Work is performed in both shop and field environments supporting oilfield, industrial, and fabrication projects, with occasional travel offshore.

  • Prepare surfaces by masking, cleaning, grinding, and inspecting prior to coating.
  • Mix and apply industrial coatings (primers, epoxies, polyurethanes, and specialty coatings) using conventional, airless, and plural-component spray systems according to manufacturer data sheets and project specifications.
  • Conduct quality checks including dry film thickness measurements, holiday testing, and visual inspections.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot blasting equipment, spray systems, compressors, ventilation, and related tools.
  • Work safely in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions while following all PPE and safety protocols.
  • Travel occasionally offshore to support project needs (may involve boat or helicopter transport and living on platform or vessel for short durations).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area; perform routine equipment maintenance and clean-up.
  • Complete required documentation and report any safety or quality issues promptly.
  • Assist with material handling, scaffolding/platform setup, and other related tasks as assigned.
  • Collaborate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients.
What You Will Need (minimum qualifications)
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in industrial sandblasting and coating preferred (oilfield or fabrication experience a strong plus).
  • Valid Alaska Hazardous Paint Handler’s Card (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally offshore, including working in marine environments and living aboard platforms or vessels for short periods.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders/scaffolding, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
  • Strong commitment to safety and ability to follow detailed work procedures and coating specifications.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and physical evaluation (including pulmonary function test if required for respirator use).
Bonus Points If You
  • NACE or SSPC coatings certification.
  • Current safety certifications:
Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, H2S Alive, NSTC (or equivalent such as CITS/CSTOP), First Aid/CPR, Water Survival / HUET (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience operating heavy equipment (forklift, man-lift, loader).

  • Must be comfortable with boat or helicopter travel and short-term living arrangements offshore.
  • Schedule may include long shifts (8-12 hours), weekends, and occasional travel or rotational work.
