Hurlbutt Designs is seeking an experienced Interior Designer / Project Designer to join one of coastal Maine's premier high-end residential design studios.
Located in Kennebunk, Maine, our firm is known for its refined aesthetic, sophisticated residential projects, and enduring client relationships. This role is ideal for a designer who combines strong creative instincts with excellent organization, project management, and client communication skills.
The designer will work within a talented, close-knit team while taking ownership of assigned projects and responsibilities. What You’ll Do- Work on residential design projects from concept through installation
- Develop furniture layouts, specifications, sourcing, finish selections, and client presentations
- Manage project details, timelines, approvals, and vendor coordination
- Communicate regularly with clients, vendors, contractors, and internal team members
- Participate in client meetings and site visits
- Track selections, pricing, orders, and outstanding project decisions
- Help resolve project issues proactively and professionally
- Collaborate with senior designers, design assistants, interns, and the installation team
- Take ownership of assigned projects and project responsibilities
- 4+ years of professional interior design experience
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Good design judgment and close attention to detail
- Confidence communicating with clients and presenting design recommendations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Comfortable collaborating within an established creative direction
- Calm, accountable, and solutions-oriented
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented studio environment
- Availability to meet with clients at our Studio on weekends as needed
- Experience in high-end residential design
- Familiarity with Design Manager, MyDoma, Studio Designer, or similar software
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch Up, or comparable design tools
- Experience coordinating with vendors, workrooms, contractors, and installers
- Knowledge of custom furniture, fabrics, window treatments, lighting, and finishes
- $30-$36 per hour, depending on experience
- Paid time off
- In-person work in our Kennebunk studio
