Special Services IEP Building Coordinator - Middle School of the Kennebunks

Location: Middle School of the Kennebunks, RSU 21.

Salary: $114,381 – $117,812.

Reports To: Director of Special Services and Building Principal.

Supervises: Special Education Teachers/Case Managers, Educational Technicians, Related Service Providers, and assigned support staff.

Position Type: Year‑round Administrative Position (Full‑time).

Position Summary

The Special Education Building Coordinator serves as the on‑site instructional and compliance leader for special education services at the Middle School of the Kennebunks. The Coordinator ensures the delivery of high‑quality, legally compliant special education services while supporting inclusive practices, effective instruction, and meaningful student outcomes. The role is responsible for coordinating services across the continuum of supports for students in grades 6‑8.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field (or in progress).
  • Valid Maine Special Education Administrator Certification (282 endorsement) or eligibility.
  • Minimum 3 years of special education teaching experience, middle school experience preferred.
  • Prior leadership, coordination, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of IDEA, FAPE, LRE, Section 504, and Maine DOE special education regulations.
  • Experience with IEP development, implementation, and compliance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with MTSS/RTI frameworks and inclusive education practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet required timelines.
  • Commitment to collaboration, confidentiality, and professional integrity.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Special Education Leadership & Compliance: Serve as LEA representative for IEP meetings; facilitate and ensure compliance of IEP development, implementation, and documentation; monitor timelines for referrals, evaluations, eligibility, and annual reviews; support compliance with state and federal special education requirements.
  • Staff Support & Professional Practice: Provide coaching and support to special education staff and related service providers; support onboarding and mentoring of new staff; collaborate with administration on staffing, scheduling, and programming; support professional learning aligned to instructional and compliance expectations.
  • Instruction & Inclusive Practices: Support inclusive practices and LRE decision‑making; collaborate with general education staff to support differentiation and co‑teaching; support student access to curriculum, accommodations, and interventions; participate in MTSS/RTI processes.
  • Family & Team

    Collaboration:

    Serve as point of contact for families regarding special education services; support effective communication between school teams and families; collaborate with outside agencies and service providers as appropriate.
  • Data & Program Support: Monitor student progress and IEP goal data; support data collection and reporting for compliance and program improvement; assist in identifying trends.
  • Physical Demands: Frequent movement, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs., crisis prevention and intervention training as required, ability to respond in dynamic environments.
