Salary Range: $23.33 To $41.59 Hourly

Long Term Substitute Teacher

Reports to: Building Principal Compensation (2026–2027 School Year):
  • Days 1–10: $23.33 per hour
  • Days 11–59: $30.00 per hour
  • 60+ days: $41.59 per hour

As a Long-Term Substitute, you will have an opportunity to serve as a dynamic leader, effective educator, and inspirational and impactful influence within your classroom. You will be expected to deliver measurable results through high-quality and intentional instructional planning, curriculum design, and curriculum delivery to improve student outcomes and transform students’ lives.

General Responsibilities
  • Plan instruction using approved curriculum, high-impact instructional strategies, subject matter expertise, and up-to-date data to meet the needs of all students
  • Establish expectations, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful, safe, positive, student-centered environment that maximizes learning
  • Engage students using a variety of instructional strategies to meet individual learning needs
  • Set ambitious goals; analyze student data to guide instruction and provide timely feedback
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve district effectiveness and engage in professional growth
  • Serve as a leader in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives
  • Maintain professionalism and effective communication as essential elements of teaching

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher required
  • Valid Maine teaching certification or eligibility for endorsement required
  • Strong subject matter expertise and knowledge of effective teaching practices
  • Ability to design differentiated, standards-based instruction
  • Experience with student-centered instruction and classroom management
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and belief that all students can learn
  • National Board Certification is a plus
Responsibilities Curriculum and Planning
  • Design instruction based on standards, pedagogy, and student needs
  • Align lesson objectives to curriculum standards using student data
  • Plan pacing, sequencing, and transitions effectively
  • Adjust instruction based on formative assessments
  • Integrate educational technology to enhance learning
Classroom Culture and Environment
  • Maintain structured routines that maximize learning time
  • Create a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative classroom climate
  • Encourage participation, inquiry, and intellectual risk-taking
  • Use communication strategies that support diverse learners
Instructional Delivery
  • Deliver rigorous, differentiated instruction based on student needs
  • Use high-impact instructional strategies to build critical thinking
  • Incorporate real-world applications and varied resources
  • Check for understanding through ongoing assessments
  • Connect learning to prior knowledge and interdisciplinary concepts
Data-Driven Instruction
  • Use student data to guide instructional decisions
  • Set and track student academic goals
  • Engage students in monitoring their own progress
  • Focus on closing achievement gaps among student groups
Collaboration and Continuous Learning
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve instruction
