General Description
Regional School Unit 21 (RSU 21) is adopting the evaluation, service delivery, and FAPE responsibilities for children ages 2.9 to 5 years old. RSU 21 is seeking a special educator with experience evaluating, supporting, and collaborating with IEP teams in the decision-making process for students ages 3, 4, and 5.
This role specifically supports the transition of services from Part C Early Intervention for ME to RSU 21 eligibility and programming. The ideal candidate will have experience working with families and community resources to support referrals and facilitate the process from referral through eligibility determination and service implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide special education case management services both within the district and in community partner preschool settings.
- Deliver specially designed instruction (SDI) in district programs and community preschool sites.
- Conduct developmental and academic evaluations.
- Develop and maintain Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and services.
- Coordinate program sites and maintain accurate student records and program accountability.
- Travel between district locations and community preschool sites as required.
- Assess learner progress using a variety of assessment methods and data sources.
- Collaborate with the comprehensive special education team at Kennebunk Elementary School to develop a cohesive service delivery model aligned with state and federal requirements.
- Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and innovation.
- Support Child Find activities and outreach efforts within the community.
- Possession of a valid Maine teaching certification in the appropriate grade level and endorsement area (282B or 282).
- Strong understanding of state and federal special education regulations.
- Knowledge of Part C Early Intervention services and school-based special education services.
- Experience implementing research-based instructional methodologies informed by diagnostic and educational assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging and effective learning environments.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with educational technology tools and software.
- Passion for innovation and fostering creativity in young learners.
- Experience working with diverse learners and families.
- Ability to actively supervise students in a variety of educational settings.
- Ability to bend, lift, kneel, and assist students with mobility and personal care needs as required.
- Ability to respond appropriately during behavioral or safety-related incidents.
- This is a 1.0 FTE, salaried, benefited school-year position (184 days).
- Salary is subject to the RSU 21 collective bargaining agreement and ranges from $57,392 (BA-0) to $109,152 (DOC-30).
