Overview
Brown and Caldwell is currently seeking an Associate Project Manager to join our growing New England Municipal Services team. This full‑time position will contribute to project delivery and client service teams in winning and executing innovative planning, evaluation, design, permitting and providing construction support services for a variety of Drinking Water, Wastewater and Water Resources projects. Example projects include studies, design and construction of wastewater treatment plants, drinking water plant designs, biosolids and residuals processing and disposal, pumping stations, pipeline, stormwater management, MS4 Compliance and integrated water resources projects for municipal clients.
We are looking for a Civil/Mechanical/Environmental Engineer with a PE license who will partner with leaders in our Northeast Area to advance our growth strategy while providing project oversight and engineering mentorship as it pertains to water, wastewater, stormwater conveyance or related water engineering work.
Candidates must live in New England but may work remotely. Travel is required (~25% of the time) to client sites within the New England region.
Responsibilities- Project team leadership:
- Set direction – support defining objectives, decision‑making processes, schedules, budgets and success factors.
- Communicate – establish effective communication methods for team stand‑ups, technical/design decisions, and client interactions.

- Execution of project delivery requirements:
- Scope – collaborate to prepare detailed scopes of work, set clear expectations and prevent overruns.
- Schedule – collaborate on development and maintenance of project schedules and recommend mitigation measures.
- Budget – develop and collaborate on work‑breakdown structures and budgets aligned with scope and schedule.
- Quality management – create and monitor quality management plans and processes to enhance client trust and minimize deficiencies.
- Change management – identify and manage internal and external changes, prepare scope and budget for change, and obtain client approval.
- Risk management – identify risks, develop mitigation strategies and monitor risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Delivery of project and business performance metrics – support achievement of scope, schedule, budget and quality; monitor profitability through earned‑value analysis and revenue forecasting.
- Client service and sales/marketing support – build successful relationships with clients and collaborate with client service managers to assess satisfaction.
- BS degree in Civil, Environmental, related Engineering or Science field.
- 4–8 years of experience in Project Management.
- Prior experience with planning, evaluating, designing, permitting or providing construction support services for a variety of water‑related engineering projects (e.g., advanced water/wastewater treatment plants, biosolids, pumping stations, pipeline conveyance, integrated water resources projects for municipal clients).
- Competency in development and monitoring of simple project schedules and budgets.
- Strong project management and leadership skills through previous experience.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and MS Project scheduling tools.
- Ability to travel regionally throughout New England approximately 25% of the time.
- MS and/or MBA degree in related Engineering or Science field.
- PE or equivalent licensing or ability to obtain through reciprocity within 6 months.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from PMI.
- Previous supervisory or mentoring experience.
