Clinical Nurse Specialist, Healthcare Nursing
NECS is seeking a full‑time Clinic Oncology Nurse Navigator in Kennebunk to help patients and families navigate the health care continuum. The Nurse Navigator will interact with patients, offer advice and counsel, and advise physicians on patients’ needs and recommended interventions. They will perform nursing assessments and triage patient care needs over the phone and in the office. This position works collaboratively with physicians, APPs, RN peers, Patient Care Coordinators, and other clinical and non‑clinical personnel within and outside the practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to assist with patient scheduling and coordination of care.
- Assist physicians and conduct patient assessments.
- Receive patient telephone calls and intervene appropriately for that patient's specific needs in a timely manner. Alert physicians as needed to patient needs that require physician intervention.
- Follow up with patients as needed by telephone to ensure compliance with treatment guidelines and to evaluate changing or uncertain clinical situations.
- Draw blood from ports, central lines, and peripheral IV access. Perform other procedures as needed.
- Ensure follow‑up appointments and tests/procedures are scheduled for patients.
- Maintain patient care standards and assure that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment and documentation, are completed safely and effectively.
- Maintain open and effective communication with all physicians, employees, and vendors.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, in‑services, and continuing education programs, national and regional professional organizations, and community‑sponsored programs specific to oncology and hematology.
- Incorporate evidence‑based research into clinical practice and provide recommendations on practice clinical policies and processes to practice directors.
- Coordinate patient‑care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health‑care providers.
- Demonstrate respect for the life, dignity, and rights of all persons.
Very minimal; may need to travel to other locations occasionally on an as‑needed basis for coverage.
WeekendsOccasional; the position will participate with other nurses in the weekend urgent‑care coverage rotation.
Required Experience- Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
- Associated RN – must be enrolled in a BSN program within 6 months of hire and complete the degree within 4 years of hire (tuition reimbursement available per company policy).
- Licensed nurse within the State of Maine required.
- OCC certification preferred.
- Two years of hematology/chemotherapy/oncology nursing experience preferred.
- ONS Chemotherapy & Bio‑therapy certification required or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
- Two to five years plus nursing professional experience required.
- Must have strong IV skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Must be detail‑oriented, have strong follow‑up skills, and be able to manage multiple priorities.
