Role works directly with site Operations leaders to drive EHS ownership and accountability. Role reports directly to the Safety Manager with a dotted line to the Plant Manager of their respective area(s) of responsibility. This position is a critical partnership between the Operations team and the EHS team to cultivate a world‑class, interdependent safety culture.
Nature and ScopeThis role is intended for people with 5 or more years’ HSE experience who have demonstrated a deep knowledge of OSHA regulations, root cause analysis, and an ability to work independently in high‑risk scenarios. An HSE Specialist II is considered a go‑to resource to the rest of the team and is typically considered a subject matter expert in one or more specific areas of Occupational Safety & Health.
May be asked to support regional initiatives or another Prysmian NA facility on a project basis as business needs arise.
While the position is primarily responsible for Health & Safety, there will be some Environmental support duties related to waste inspections, spill cleanup, and equipment pump‑outs.
Essential Job Functions- Provides technical safety and health support and information to the site Operations team.
- Coordinates and delivers EHS training to employees.
- Responsible for development and execution of the site safety improvement plan.
- Performs risk assessments of site operations to determine risk and implement defenses to protect employees from uncontrolled risk.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and training to develop equipment‑specific LOTO procedures, standard work instructions, etc.
- Manages all aspects of workplace injuries and near misses. Including documenting incidents, leading incident investigation teams, determining root cause(s) and implementing corrective action(s).
- Participates in new product / process reviews including process hazard analyses, operator training, Job Safety Analysis, etc.
- Strong knowledge of Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations that apply to their work environment and ensures compliance with those requirements.
- Conducts and assists with internal and external HSE audits and meets with regulatory agencies during facility inspections/audits as required.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
- A bachelor’s degree, in Occupational Safety, Engineering, Manufacturing, Environmental, or related technical discipline.
- Direct experience and time in an HSE role may be used as a substitute for a degree.
- Minimum of 5 years EHS experience in manufacturing preferred.
- ASP, GSP, CSP, CHST, or other related HSE certification preferred.
- Displays strong problem solving, organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Some familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, NIOSH, ANSI, NEC, TCEQ, etc
- Knowledge of Texas Worker’s Compensation regulations.
- Knowledge of ISO Management Systems (14001 & 45001) a plus.
- Ability to travel periodically for meetings, participation in other site audits, etc.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to create a results‑driven, team‑oriented environment.
- Demonstrate a customer‑service mindset that treats all people upstream and downstream of their process with respect.
