Our client is a leader in renewable natural gas. With a mission to decarbonize the US. You'll be working for a company that builds, owns, and operates anaerobic digestion facilities, converting waste into clean, renewable energy.
About the Role
This role is predominantly focused on ensuring all commissioning activities are completed safely and on time for RNG sites across the US. You will play a critical role in the successful startup and handover of anaerobic digestion and RNG facilities. You’ll lead field execution and contractor coordination, oversee commissioning milestones, and ensure that systems are turned over to operations safely, efficiently, and on-spec.
This is a high-ownership role for an engineer with strong construction oversight and process commissioning experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of project-specific commissioning plans
- Manage safe commissioning and startup of electrical, instrumentation, mechanical/process systems (e.g., digesters, pumps, piping, compressors, heat exchangers, gas processing units)
- Coordinate between construction, engineering, and operations to ensure project alignment
- Oversee contractors, general construction teams, and commissioning vendors
- Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and equipment documentation
- Track completion milestones, performance testing, and operational handover
- Support cost control, forecasting, and project reporting in collaboration with PMs
- Lead root-cause analysis, design revisions, and continuous improvement during startup
- Develop standard operating procedures and field documentation
- Participate in operator training and operational readiness
- Travel to project sites (approximately 50%) to manage and support field execution
Your Background
- 5+ years of experience in overseeing commissioning, construction, or facility startup
- Proven experience working on biogas, wastewater, chemical, energy, or food process plants
- Deep understanding of electrical, mechanical systems, process equipment, and field commissioning practices
- Familiarity with P&IDs, construction drawings, and process flow diagrams
- Experience managing contractors and coordinating multi-disciplinary field teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; scheduling and reporting tools (e.g., MS Project or Primavera)
- Understanding of safety practices and regulatory compliance (OSHA, confined space, LOTO, etc.)
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Comfortable with travel and flexible hours during site work
