Job Overview
40 hours per week position. Performs a variety of skilled work requiring manual labor and operating heavy equipment. Reports to the assigned Foreman.
Responsibilities- Operate a variety of heavy equipment.
- Load and unload needed materials and supplies.
- Perform needed maintenance in assigned areas such as streets.
- Haul equipment.
- Maintain assigned equipment and machinery.
- Provide assistance with other crews, divisions, and/or departments.
- Receive and/or review various records and reports such as verbal instructions from supervisor and work orders.
- Prepare and/or process various records and reports such as overtime sheets and work orders.
- Refer to street maps, work orders, manuals, policy and procedure manuals, codes/laws/regulations, publications and reference texts.
- Operate vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as backhoe, bulldozer, bobcat, excavator, dump truck.
- Use tools such as shovel, hammer, cement float, elevation instrument, hand tools, jack hammer, air compressor, rakes, shovels, and supplies such as wood, sand, limestone, grease, cement, bricks, asphalt.
- Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals such as Superintendent, Director, Foreman, Assistant Foreman, Crew Chiefs, coworkers, contractors, and the general public.
- Provide assistance with hanging holiday decorations.
- Move furniture.
- Provide assistance in setting up tents and temporary special events.
Perform other related duties as required, including reporting to work during city-wide declared emergencies.
Minimum QualificationsRequires one to two years of experience operating heavy construction and maintenance equipment and performing related skilled work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must have a valid Class "A" Louisiana driver’s license.
