Waste Water Maintenance Technician
Job DescriptionTwo current vacancy. Remains open until both positions are filled. 40 hrs./week. Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled maintenance and repair on treatment plant and lift station pump mechanical and equipment devices. Employees in this classification troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions, and determine need for repair or replacement of equipment and parts accordingly. Maintenance responsibilities consist of routine tasks, i.e., changing out cylinders, greasing bearings and fittings.
Position ensures compliance with established safety and accident prevention standards. Performs related work as directed.
Receives work orders concerning water/sewage treatment plant and/or lift station pump and mechanical maintenance and repairs. Performs skilled troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, and determines needs for repair or replacement of equipment and parts accordingly. Inspects work upon completion to ensure adherence to work order specifications. Adheres to established preventive maintenance programs and schedules for lubricating, rotating, cleaning, and inspecting equipment and attendant devices.
Complies with established safety measures and accident prevention standards, i.e., use of proper gear and equipment, monitoring environmental conditions. Reports on any perceived apparent or potential maintenance or repair needs in a timely manner. Provides lead worker supervision, guidance, and technical assistance to subordinate crew. Installs, repairs, and replaces various parts, equipment and devices, i.e., pumps, motors, bubbler and ventilation systems, water and air lines, drive shafts, air compressors, piping, valves, pneumatic controls, electrical fixtures including switches and motors.
Ability to effectively operate a torch.
High school diploma, HiSet, GED or possession of high school equivalency, and advanced level of work in installation, maintenance, or comparable role or trade at an advanced level of work; including the responsibility for independently troubleshooting mechanical failures.
OR
A combination of education and experience; including the responsibility for independently troubleshooting mechanical failures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates Degree or higher degree, Certification in a related field and one year work experience in the installation, maintenance or comparable role or trade at an advanced level of work; including the responsibility for independently troubleshooting mechanical failures.
OR
A combination of education and experience; including the responsibility for independently troubleshooting mechanical failures.
In all cases, a current, valid Louisiana driver's license and proof of education will be required.
Non-Competitive – All candidates determined to meet or exceed the minimum qualification requirement will be certified to the department with the current vacancies for possible interview.

Retirement System: The City of Kenner's regular full time employees are enrolled with the Municipal Employees Retirement System of Louisiana.
