OverviewUnder general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled maintenance and repair on treatment plant and lift station pump mechanical and equipment devices. Employees in this classification troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions, determine need for repair or replacement of equipment and parts accordingly, and ensure compliance with established safety and accident prevention standards. The position performs related work as directed, receives work orders concerning water/sewage treatment plant and/or lift station pump mechanical maintenance and repairs, inspects work upon completion to verify adherence to specifications, and follows preventive maintenance programs and schedules.
Responsibilities- Perform skilled troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, and determine needs for repair or replacement of equipment and parts.
- Inspect work upon completion to ensure adherence to work order specifications.
- Adhere to established preventive maintenance programs and schedules for lubricating, rotating, cleaning, and inspecting equipment and attendant devices.
- Comply with established safety measures and accident prevention standards, including proper gear usage and monitoring environmental conditions.
- Report any perceived or potential maintenance or repair needs in a timely manner.
- Provide lead worker supervision, guidance, and technical assistance to subordinate crew.
- Install, repair, and replace various parts, equipment and devices, including pumps, motors, bubbler and ventilation systems, water and air lines, drive shafts, air compressors, piping, valves, pneumatic controls, electrical fixtures, switches and motors.
- Operate a torch effectively.
- High school graduation or equivalent and at least one year of full‑time, paid, journeyman‑level experience in the repair and maintenance of electric pumps and motors and related mechanical equipment; OR
- High school graduation plus work experience in a related wastewater position and six months or more of repairing, maintaining, or assisting in the repair and maintenance of electric pumps and motors and related mechanical equipment.
NOTE:
Must possess a current, valid Louisiana driver’s license. May be required to obtain other licenses and/or certifications during employment with the Wastewater Department.
