Description
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field preferred
- Valid Georgia professional certification in Music Education preferred but not required
- Experience working with middle and high school students in a band or ensemble setting
- Willingness to be trained in live sound and basic audio engineering for school events
- Strong organizational, relational, and collaborative skills

Job DescriptionThe Assistant Band Director supports the Head Band Director in the instruction, development, and management of the instrumental music program for grades 5–12. This role provides instructional support, sectional leadership, and assistance with rehearsals and performances while also serving in a trainable audio support capacity for select school functions. The position is designed to strengthen program sustainability, student experience, and operational excellence across the performing arts.
Physical RequirementsLifting and transporting boxes not exceeding 20 pounds; ability to stand for long periods of time while instructing or assisting with rehearsals; adequate hearing ability; ability to move equipment and students across campus as needed.
Instructional and Program SupportThe Assistant Band Director is responsible for supporting the band program through the following:
- Assisting in teaching instrumental music at appropriate instructional levels and supporting individual student growth
- Leading sectionals, small ensembles, and enrichment groups as assigned
- Supporting rehearsal preparation, classroom management, and instructional delivery
- Assisting with concerts, performances, and programs as dictated by instructional needs and school expectations
- Helping maintain a positive classroom climate and healthy learning environment
- Supporting student engagement, assessment, and progress monitoring
- Reinforcing behavioral expectations and school policies in collaboration with the Head Band Director
- Assisting with extracurricular band activities including pep band, jazz band, performances, and MPCS events
- Supporting logistics for performances, rehearsals, and off campus events as needed
- Working collaboratively with the Head Band Director to ensure consistency in curriculum, expectations, and student experience
- Attending faculty meetings, department meetings, and assigned school functions
- Maintaining professionalism in communication with students, parents, and colleagues
- Supporting substitute planning and preparation as needed
- Demonstrating accurate, up to date knowledge of content and instructional practices
- Showing support and high esteem for Mount Paran Christian School
- Modeling appropriate Christian behavior in speech and actions
In addition to instructional responsibilities, this role will support basic audio needs across campus:
- Receiving training to assist with live sound reinforcement for select school events, performances, and gatherings
- Supporting setup, basic operation, and teardown of sound equipment under the direction of the Audio Engineer or Director of Performing Arts
- Assisting with microphones, mixing boards, speakers, and basic signal flow for events
- Providing backup and relief support to reduce demands on the full time Audio Engineer
- Supporting a growing culture of technical excellence within the performing arts
- Complying with conditions as stated in the employee contract and handbook
- Maintaining accurate records and files as assigned
- Assuming responsibility for supervision of students in out of class settings when assigned
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Performing Arts
