Department Information

The Department of Psychological Science is a large and dynamic department in the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences. It supports a major and minor in psychology, including a fully online undergraduate program. Faculty guide students in the study of behavior and mental processes, promoting scientific thinking and transferable skills that lead to meaningful careers. The department provides hands-on experiences through study abroad, internships, peer mentoring, and research experiences.

Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychological Science, with a preferred start date of August 2026. This is a nine-month contracted position. The area of specialization is neuroscience (broadly defined) and may include neuropsychology, biopsychology, behavioral, clinical, or cognitive neuroscience. The position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

Strong scholarship, along with a commitment to excellence in teaching and engagement, is expected of all faculty members. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate a record of impactful research and teaching excellence.
  • Teach courses in the area of specialization and courses that are part of the required core in the psychology major.
  • Teach courses of variable sizes and modalities, including large class sizes.
  • The standard teaching load is 9 credit hours (3 courses) per semester, with the load negotiable depending on research intensity.
  • Engage in programmatic research that results in publications in refereed journals and pursue extramural funding.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate education and mentorship.
  • Service to the Department, College, University, and/or profession is expected.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • A Doctorate degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Psychology or a closely related discipline is required at the time of hire.
  • Evidence of promoting student success.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the university level.
  • Demonstrated record of research and scholarship within the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialization in the biological basis of psychology.
  • Ability to teach courses related to specialization (e.g., Physiological Psychology, Psychopharmacology), in addition to research methods and statistics.
  • Effectiveness in teaching in different modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid) and in different class sizes (including large classes).
  • Effectiveness in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and in publishing scholarship in reputable outlets.
  • Experience or potential in securing external funding.
