Job Summary
Provide cooking and nutrition instruction that supports the vision and direction of KSU's Health Promotion and Wellness. Respond to questions from participants and maintain the scope of practice. Demonstrate sound problem‑solving and decision‑making skills with food allergies, ingredient availability, and dietary food accommodations. Follow food safety protocols and provide students, staff, and faculty with a fun and safe learning environment.
Responsibilities- Plans, instructs and implements organized class sequences and applies SERV Safe guidelines during all programs.
- Plans, instructs, prepares, and implements cooking demonstration classes for students and the community.
- Develops and imparts culinary, nutrition, and food safety information via in‑person activities and recorded activities for online platforms.
- Educates, entertains, and motivates participants to cook and use demonstrated recipes.
- Demonstrates time‑management skills and attention to detail; plans and implements organized class sequences so sessions begin and end on time.
- Provides supervision to student assistant(s) or intern(s) and manages kitchen set‑up and clean‑up before and after each class.
- Accommodates participants with food allergies and other unique dietary restrictions as needed.
- Completes paperwork and communicates updates to supervisor and peers on a regular basis.
- Creates a welcoming environment and provides a high level of customer service.
- Encourages program participants to improve food choices and healthy lifestyle behaviors.
- Educates participants with varying knowledge, interests, and abilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- SERV Safe Certification.
- Experience in leading cooking demonstration classes.
- Adult CPR/AED/First Aid.
- Undergraduate or advanced degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
- Initiative and ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time and meet assigned deadlines.
- Prior knowledge or experience with cooking and nutrition.
- Food safety knowledge and skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem‑solving, independent judgment, communication (verbal and written), project management, and presentation skills.
- Strong organization and time‑management skills.
- Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (e.g., Microsoft Office suite).
- Strong attention to detail and follow‑up skills.
- Strong customer service skills and phone and email etiquette.
- This is not a supervisory position.
- This position does not have any financial responsibilities.
- This position will not be required to drive.
- This role is not considered a position of trust.
- This position does not require a purchasing card (P‑Card).
- This position may travel 1%–24%.
- This position does not require security clearance.
