Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, full-time, non‑tenure track faculty position as a Limited Term Interim Director of Curatorial Affairs in the School of Art and Design with a preferred start date of August 2026. This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities
  • Lead development and growth of the permanent collection, overseeing legal and ethical issues and ensuring best practices for stewardship and care.
  • Develop a thoughtful and supportive team environment with active professional development focus.
  • Cultivate relationships with donors, collectors, professional colleagues, and the broader art world.
  • Develop productive relationships with the campus community by collaborating with faculty members and mentoring students to conduct research on the collection and engage in student exhibitions.
  • Oversee budget development for the curatorial department, working in close collaboration with the Director of the School of Art and Design and Operations Manager to manage resources effectively.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities in line with the overall museum development strategy.
  • Supervise direct reports, collections manager, education and outreach coordinator, museum service coordinator, and preparator.
  • The position is 80% Service and 20% Teaching. The candidate is expected to teach two classes a year.
Required Qualifications
  • A terminal degree in Creative Writing or closely related discipline such as Art History, Arts Administration, Museum Studies, or an Art Studio discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a museum or arts leadership position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience as a curator or in a closely related position.
  • Distinguished body of publications and exhibitions is preferred.
  • Administrative skills in areas such as leadership development, project management and budgeting are required.
  • Excellent writing skills.
