Job Summary
WSP is seeking a Project Geologist for our Atlanta area offices. The role involves providing technical field services, guidance, and support for environmental work processes, including due diligence, site investigation, remediation projects, and geophysical surveys. The Project Geologist will assist with site assessment, corrective strategies, classification of contaminated materials, and management of remediation activities.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct environmental field activities such as soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other matrices for projects and surveys.
- Coordinate site investigation, subsurface boring, trenching oversight, and monitoring of groundwater and extraction well installations.
- Assist with oversight of drilling subcontractors during sample collection, well installation, and well abandonment.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements, analysis, and reporting.
- Assist project managers with development and scoping of medium‑size projects.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebooks.
- Support technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or clean up chemical and environmental problems and contamination.
- Work with cross‑functional teams in executing project work.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures, including sample collection, trench and boring, laboratory documentation, written procedures, monitoring systems, and logbooks.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or a closely related discipline.
- 5 to 7 years of experience working as a Geologist.
- Analytical skills and proficiency with geological research techniques and protocol.
- Ability to perform or oversee equipment/tool performance, calibration, troubleshooting, and inventory control.
- Experience interacting with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
- Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
- Experience sampling soil and groundwater via drilling, including direct‑push, hollow‑stem auger, and other methods.
- Experience installing groundwater monitoring wells, remediation wells, and soil gas wells.
- Experience writing groundwater monitoring reports and well installation reports.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Ability to assertively direct subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to comply with WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Travel schedule and locations may vary depending on project requirements.
- Possess or be able to obtain 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR ).
