Senior Technical Manager, Geologist
WSP is seeking a Senior Technical Manager, Geologist with RCRA and CERCLA experience to serve our Atlanta area offices as part of the Site Assessment and Remediation Team within the WSP Earth & Environment Business. The role involves managing environmental projects such as high‑level field studies, technical report preparation, and project management, while interacting with clients, regulators, contractors, and stakeholders. Projects include site investigations, geological studies, groundwater sampling, remedial design, and corrective actions in compliance with CERCLA, RCRA, and the National Contingency Plan.
Some travel and fieldwork is required.
- Develop technical reports describing field activities and presenting environmental data for projects regulated under CERCLA, RCRA, Solid Waste, Clear Water Act, or LUST.
- Lead a range of environmental and engineering projects, from conceptual site model development to remediation and risk management strategy implementation.
- Plan, execute, and oversee environmental site investigations and assessments.
- Handle project management duties: proposal development, budgeting, schedule monitoring, and coordination of equipment and materials.
- Guide data collection for soil, soil gas, groundwater, boring logs, and other matrices.
- Prepare complex data visualizations such as soil analyses, groundwater modeling, and geologic cross‑sections.
- Analyze, evaluate, and interpret geologic, hydrogeologic, and chemical data, contributing to the development of corrective action plans.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a closely related discipline (Master’s or higher preferred).
- Professional licensure or certification in Georgia (P.G.) or the ability to obtain one.
- At least 10 years of environmental project experience, including task management, proposal writing, client interaction, and regulatory engagement.
- In‑depth knowledge of CERCLA, RCRA, and related environmental regulations and compliance practices.
- Experience with site investigations and remediation of soil, surface water, and groundwater.
- Hands‑on experience sampling soil and groundwater via drilling methods such as direct‑push and hollow‑stem auger.
- Experience with Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) logging.
- Experience installing monitoring wells, remediation wells, and soil gas wells.
- Subcontractor management skills: soliciting bids, purchase requisitions, and work scheduling.
- Ability to work independently and lead junior team members with strict QA/QC adherence.
- Strong verbal and written communication, including technical report and proposal writing.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to evaluate test results and identify cost‑effective contamination responses.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP safety and anti‑harassment policies.
- Certified 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER Health and Safety Training; annual refresher required (29 CFR ).
