Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. The role is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. Practice is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence-based practice, with RN competencies derived from these models and supported by Wellstar Values.
CoreResponsibilities and Essential Functions
Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation) using evidence-based practice and critical thinking to ensure individualized care and coordinate care through effective partnerships.
- Provide relationship‑based patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics and adapt service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
- Partner with patients and significant others using appropriate methods for setting and purpose, such as bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds and patient teaching, keeping patient goals the focus of the plan of care.
- Practice using current clinical practice standards.
- Coordinate the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, including interdisciplinary communication methods and timely documentation.
- Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner that promotes recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
- Participate and support performance improvement, research and research utilization, and actively support/shared governance at all levels.
- Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required education, and population‑specific education.
- Serve as preceptor or mentor for other professional nurses, staff or students to ensure a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment.
- Promote evidence-based practice, nursing research and performance improvement, including value analysis in decision‑making for patient care products.
- Uphold health care system policies and procedures, clinical competencies, regulatory and accreditation requirements, including TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar Health Systems safety absolutes.
- Participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions, consult experts and use evidence to address practice questions.
- Proactively plan for patient care across the care continuum while delivering direct patient care.
- Participate in the development of protocols and procedures to achieve best practice outcomes.
- Support efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education
Associates Nursing or Diploma (Nurse);
Nursing or Bachelors Nursing (Preferred)
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated: RN – Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN‑COMPACT (Multi‑state Compact), BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor

Required Minimum ExperienceLess than 1 year:
Completion of an accredited/approved school of nursing with required clinical hours. Direct patient care experience (Preferred)
