Job Title

Certified Medication Aide - Part Time (2608790)

Job Purpose

Responsible for assisting residents with medications ordered by their licensed health care providers and as established in each resident’s individualized care plan. May provide medication reminders, assistance with self‑administration, and administration of medications as allowed by state and federal laws and applicable rules according to company policies and procedures. Key communicator with the resident’s pharmacy, healthcare provider and family regarding medication management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of assisted living policies and procedures regarding all aspects of medication management
  • Remains current in knowledge of state and federal rules regarding scope of practice, medication storage & disposal, infection control practices & bio‑hazardous waste disposal
  • Accurately read and follow medication orders and medication labels
  • Accurately transpose medication orders to the MAR & make any needed corrections according to physician orders
  • Follows the Six Rights of Medication Administration
  • Identify concerns related to medication orders, instructions or resident reactions and take appropriate actions
  • Follow appropriate infection control practices related to medication administration
  • Follow proper medication storage and disposal practices
  • Recognize possible medication side effects or adverse reactions and take appropriate actions
  • Know which medications unlicensed staff may never provide assistance with, administer or provide supervision for and never do so
  • Monitor resident’s medication quantities and related supplies and arrange timely procurement of refills to ensure resident doses are not missed or monitoring is compromised
  • Arrange timely procurement of newly ordered medications
  • Make appropriate physician & family contacts in a professional manner when order clarification is needed or regarding resident reactions or other medication concerns
  • Accurately document assistance/administration and resident refusal of medications according to policy and professional standards
  • Follow policy, professional standards and the law regarding storage, assistance/administration, documentation and disposal of controlled medications
  • Immediately report and document any medication errors to the administrator or designee per policy and take appropriate actions for resident well‑being
  • Report and document any resident change in condition
  • Use good judgment in seeking necessary assistance from peers, supervisor, administrator, physician, family and EMS as needed
  • Obtain accurate pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and blood glucose readings
  • Accurately document the effectiveness of medications given on an as needed basis and do so in a timely manner
  • Monitor medications for accountability by verifying proper orders, receipt, and conducting controlled medication drug counts at shift change
  • Communicate effectively from shift to shift & to others (family, pharmacy, physician etc.) to facilitate accurate follow‑up regarding resident medications
  • Routinely inspect, clean and monitor the med storage system, equipment and supplies for resident safety; report concerns to the supervisor for correction or repair
  • Assist direct care partners with their duties as part of the direct care team
  • Complete thorough face‑to‑face change of shift report to the CMA relieving the next shift
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the CMA’s practice, training and abilities
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    Some high school
  • Minimum Experience:

    On‑the‑job training provided
  • Preferred Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Experience:

    Previous medication tech experience; experience with long‑term care or assisted living population
