Postdoctoral Researcher in Fluvial Geomorphology

A fully funded postdoctoral position is available in fluvial geomorphology at Kennesaw State University (KSU). It is supported by the KSU Office of Research.

The selected candidate will work directly with me (Ranbir Kang) in the Department of Geography and Anthropology. Using high-resolution terrestrial LiDAR and point cloud analysis, this research explores the dynamics of low-order streams across a range of ecoregions and land cover types, drawing on field data, long-term field experiments, and secondary datasets. The postdoc will also have real room to help shape new directions within this growing research program.

It is also a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience mentoring talented undergraduate researchers.

The Office of Research covers up to 100% of the postdoc's salary and benefits (range is $51,600 to $60,000) for up to 18 months, plus up to $2,000 in professional development funding for conference travel. Appointments can begin as early as November 1, 2026 (flexible) and run through June 30, 2028 at the latest. Postdocs also join a structured career development series covering grant writing, research ethics, manuscript preparation, and job search strategies, all while working with me toward peer-reviewed publications and new external funding.

We're looking for someone with an earned doctorate (or near completion, with a letter from the dissertation chair or program director confirming defense status), a strong background in GIS, remote sensing, and/or point cloud analysis, and sharp technical writing and data analysis skills. Programming experience is a plus. Above all, the ideal candidate is hardworking, independent, genuinely curious, and driven to deliver real results.

A strong interest in, or experience with, publishing and grant writing is highly desirable.

There is no funding to support costs beyond the fellowship and fringe (i.e., no funding for visa fees).

My lab is a collaborative hub for geomorphology and high performance computing at KSU, with active projects in applied fluvial geomorphology within the vibrant Atlanta metropolitan area.
