Temporary Early Career Environmental Scientist

Location:

Nashville, TN or Kennesaw, GA. This role is part of WSP’s Earth & Environment Team, focusing on Natural Resources and Permitting across a range of markets. The position involves field surveys, data collection, documentation, and collaboration with planners, scientists, and engineers.

Your Impact
  • Conduct natural resource field surveys under general supervision.
  • Perform wetland delineations, T&E surveys, and natural resource inventories (NRIs).
  • Maintain quality control standards for accurate measurement and documentation.
  • Assist with entry‑level environmental science work on ecological systems and water resources.
  • Generate complete and concise documentation using electronic systems and field notebooks.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures, including sample collection and record‑keeping.
  • Utilize latest technologies and instrumentation for habitat, site, and impact studies.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, natural resource management, or a related life sciences field.
  • Analytical skills and familiarity with research techniques, local/regional ecology, habitats, and relevant species.
  • Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for both scientific and non‑scientific audiences.
  • Self‑leadership with attention to detail and ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
  • Independent work ability under general supervision and teamwork to meet business objectives.
  • Proficiency with business writing, office automation, and communication software.
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate project‑specific requirements, including occasional week‑long travel for field surveys.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to office and project locations.
  • Ability to work outside under a variety of site and weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Wetlands Professional in Training (WPIT) status with the Society of Wetland Scientists.
  • Herbaceous and woody plant identification skills.
