Field Service Technician – Post Press
Location:
Los Angeles, California. We are looking for a Field Service Technician to join our team in multiple locations. If you are traveling to customer sites, this position is responsible for on‑site setup, installation and repair of Heidelberg Commercial Bindery equipment, as well as customer training.
- Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of Heidelberg Postpress bindery equipment.
- Conduct maintenance and training on Heidelberg Postpress commercial bindery equipment.
- Work with qualified riggers to install and/or move new or used equipment.
- Return all noted unused parts, out‑of‑box failures, wrong parts, etc.
- Complete all paperwork promptly (expenses, time sheets, online training, car maintenance).
- Keep dispatch team informed about estimated job completion time, updating them if situation changes.
- Keep customers updated on ETA and status of repairs.
- Perform equipment installations, including unpacking, checking power and compressed air, initial setup, adjustment, and thorough testing to ensure factory standards.
- Provide initial and ongoing formal customer operator and equipment maintenance training.
- Assess customer training needs and recommend additional training to Heidelberg US (HUS).
- Deliver periodic on‑site troubleshooting and repairs for complex electrical, mechanical or pneumatic problems.
- Provide detailed technical feedback via Mobile Service App (MService) during and after each visit, following Heidelberg US guidelines.
- Manage a demanding schedule, with up to 75% travel per week and occasional weekend work.
- Demonstrated customer‑management skills and strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Ability to independently manage a large service territory, including effective asset management.
- Proficient in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems to component level.
- Experience providing telephone technical support and communicating effectively via phone and email.
- Knowledge of high‑ and low‑voltage wiring and ability to identify and qualify single‑phase and three‑phase power requirements.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, including use of critical alignment tools with tolerances of .001″.
- Frequent lifting of up to 70lb and ability to work in tight spaces, crawl on concrete floors, and physically contort to access components.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent customer and people‑relationship skills.
- PC proficiency.
- Willingness to travel overnight.
- Minimum two‑year technical degree or equivalent experience in mechanical, digital, and electronic technology.
- Minimum two years in field engineering positions servicing complex electro‑mechanical devices at high‑demand customer locations.
- Technical degree is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5–10years of field service experience.
