Position Overview
The Field Service Technician – Sheetfed (Electrical Focus) is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing Heidelberg Sheetfed printing equipment, with a primary focus on electrical and control system issues. The role supports customers by identifying electrical faults, performing repairs, and ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently. Technicians also provide customer training on equipment operation and basic maintenance procedures. They take ownership of service assignments and collaborate with installation teams, riggers, fellow technicians, and the technical helpdesk to resolve issues and complete installations.
Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, machine controls, and the ability to interpret electrical schematics are essential for success in this role. This position requires travel to customer locations to provide on‑site service and support. A company vehicle is provided, and when travel extends beyond the assigned geographic area, airfare, lodging, rental car, and per diem expenses are covered.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical and control system issues on Heidelberg Sheetfed printing equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and service work on Sheetfed equipment under charge service and service contract/warranty agreements.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation to identify faults and complete repairs.
- Install and support new or used equipment in coordination with qualified riggers and installation teams, including customer‑requested equipment relocations.
- Conduct scheduled equipment inspections (SS36 – 10, 20, 30, and annual inspections), ensuring proper documentation and photographs are completed.
- Maintain accurate service documentation to support equipment performance tracking and protect both Heidelberg and customer equipment investments.
- Provide customer training on equipment operation, electrical components, and basic troubleshooting procedures.
- Demonstrate the value of Heidelberg service during customer visits and identify opportunities to support additional service or parts needs, including APS and car stock sales.
- Maintain strong product knowledge and communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Complete all required administrative responsibilities in a timely manner, including expense reports, timesheets, escalation reports, inspection documentation, training requirements, and company‑vehicle maintenance.
- Technical training or experience in industrial electrical systems, electrical maintenance, or controls troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience troubleshooting industrial equipment, automated machinery, or control systems.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to diagnose equipment issues in the field.
- Ability to work independently while managing service assignments and customer expectations.
- Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer locations.
- Associate’s degree, vocational apprenticeship, or job‑related work experience.
- 3–5 years of experience working with printing equipment, sheetfed presses, or similar industrial machinery.
- Knowledge of PLC‑controlled systems, sensors, drives, and machine control interfaces.
- Field service or technical support experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Prior experience performing equipment installation or commissioning.
This position requires travel to customer sites covering the Central Region (and in some cases beyond) with an average travel requirement of 67%–100%. A company vehicle is provided; when traveling outside the assigned geographic area, airfare, hotels, and per diem are supplied. Salary ranges from $30 to $35 per hour.
