Position Title: Teacher Aide
Qualifications: Sixty (60) College Hours
Reports to: Building-level Administrators
Terms of Employment: Varies per Assignment
JOB GOAL:
To assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help students achieve skill levels, and to provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material and skills.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
- Guides independent study, enrichment, and remedial work.
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
- Keeps bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up to date.
- Assists with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and story‑telling.
- Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
- Assists students in the library media center.
- Corrects papers, and supervises testing and make‑up work, as assigned by the teacher.
- Assists with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
- Assists with wash‑up and toilet routines.
- Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information regarding an individual student.
- Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
- Participates in professional development, as assigned.
