Location: Amistad Elementary School
Hours: 6 Hours per Day, 180 Days per Year
This position is based on student/program need. Hours may increase or decrease as necessary.
The para educator will work with students individually and in groups in the regular classroom and special services settings, under the supervision of the certificated staff. The para educator will provide clerical assistance, crosswalk and recess supervision, and perform other job-related duties as needed.

Qualifications Required- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
- Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
- Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
- Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
- Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
- Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- Must be first-aid certified if required.
- Evidence of strong academic background in grade level content areas of reading, writing, and math. Candidates may be tested to meet minimum qualifications.
- Previous experience supporting special education students in regular education programs.
- Experience as a special education para educator or similar successful experience.
- Previous experience working with disabled children.
- Able to take initiative and carry out tasks with a minimum of direct supervision.
- Able to maintain confidentiality.
- Able to work with students who have learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math; as well as students with behavior challenges such as impulsivity, inattentive, and distractibility.
- Create a warm positive learning environment by encouraging students.
- Flexible and able to work in a team situation.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
- Able to work closely and cooperate with teacher supervisors.
- Training and/or experience in using computers, able to use Microsoft Office and other technology applications.
- Positive recommendations and performance evaluations.
- Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of able to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
- Provide direct support to special education students in need of remediation accommodations in regular education and special services classrooms.
- Assist teachers with needed clerical or instructional tasks.
- Assist in supervision and control of students in order to promote a safe, orderly positive learning climate.
- Complete required paperwork with accuracy and efficiency to maintain compliance with state and school district regulations.
- Perform outside/recess supervision as assigned.
- Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
