Qualifications Required
  • Valid appropriate Washington State Teacher’s Certificate with Endorsement in Spanish
  • Must have an ELL/ESL or Bilingual Education endorsement
  • Satisfactory evaluations
Qualifications Preferred
  • Evidence of Spanish cultural knowledge and ability to speak the language with authentic accent.
  • Evidence of ability to motivate and instruct students through a varied instructional repertoire, especially for gifted students.
  • Evidence of recent successful Spanish teaching or student teaching experience within the last five years.
  • Demonstrated skills and interest in teaching students of all abilities, including special needs.
  • Demonstrated success in maintaining a positive, productive learning climate and positive communication with parents and colleagues.
  • Ability to work as a cooperative team player within a department and a participatory based school organization.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use technology in instruction and student management.
  • Evidence of ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on individual learning styles (basic levels and extensions beyond basics).
  • Evidence of awareness of current changes affecting reading and writing education and essential academic learning requirements.
  • Punctual and consistent attendance.
  • Experience and/or education in working with secondary-level multilingual learners.
  • Successful experience working with bilingual/bicultural students and willingness to be flexible in scheduling/support.
  • Successful experience with placing students based on assessment and experience with WIDA assessment and standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of language acquisition and effective methods of instruction for multilingual learners at all stages of development.
Responsibilities
  • Teach Spanish I and Exploratory Spanish in a positive classroom atmosphere using instructional methodologies that promote student success and high academic standards.
  • Curriculum development and implementation for a Native Speaker Spanish Program.
  • Work proactively with all students through clear expectations, negotiation and compromise, and maintain regular parent/ staff/student communication regarding progress and behavior.
  • Work positively and constructively in a changing school environment, focusing on improving student learning and achieving success for all students.
  • Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior to students.
  • Work in context with multicultural and at-risk students.
  • Provide instruction based on state and district essential learnings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Design and deliver English Language Development instruction aligned to state standards, supporting students at varying levels of English proficiency.
  • Teach sheltered or supported content courses that integrate language and content objectives.
  • Differentiated instruction to meet diverse linguistic, cultural, and academic needs of multilingual learners.
  • Use data to inform instruction, including language proficiency assessments and classroom-based measures.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to co-plan, co-teach, and scaffold instruction for multilingual learner students in mainstream classes.
  • Develop and implement supports for students based on language proficiency levels and academic goals.
  • Monitor and document student progress toward English language acquisition and academic achievement.
  • Communicate regularly with families using culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate methods.
  • Support students’ social-emotional needs, especially those navigating acculturation, interrupted education, or migration-related experiences.
  • Advocate for equitable access to grade-level curriculum, graduation pathways, and postsecondary opportunities.
  • Integrate culturally sustaining teaching practices that affirm students’ identities and linguistic assets.
