Job Description

Middle School English Language Arts (.33 Con) at Kennewick Highlands Middle School. Position #HI23203.

Qualifications Required
  • Washington State Teacher’s Certificate with endorsements in K‑8 or ELA or Middle Level humanities.
  • Satisfactory evaluations.
Qualifications Preferred
  • Reading endorsement or equivalent coursework.
  • Evidence of previous successful teaching experience in English Language Arts at the middle level.
  • Evidence of proven experience using GLAD strategies.
  • Evidence of successful experience working as a member of a professional learning community.
  • Experience in creating and analyzing assessments to determine effectiveness of instruction.
  • Skills at organizing an appropriate behavior management system to promote a positive learning environment.
  • Willingness to adopt MTSS strategies as a foundation for classroom management.
  • Punctual and consistent attendance.
  • Experience identifying and implementing essential standards.
  • Experience working effectively with at‑risk students.
  • Evidence of successful communication with staff, students, and parents.
Job Responsibilities
  • Design and provide instruction to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Design and provide instruction using district‑adopted materials.
  • Modify / scaffold lessons for students at all ability levels.
  • Work effectively as a member of a professional learning community and demonstrate leadership skills through active participation in program, building, and district staff training.
  • Communicate student performance results, behavior concerns, academic progress, etc. regularly with parents, administration, and team members.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student/classroom behavior to provide a supportive and productive learning environment.
  • Demonstrate classroom management skills that allow for a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Collaboratively prepare and support grade level and school programs and events.
  • Collaboratively support students for district or community‑wide events.
  • Work with staff in supporting and enhancing classroom activities.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff to maintain a positive, disciplined, educationally sound learning environment for students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Physical Demands
    • Requires frequent standing and walking for prolonged periods, pushing or pulling 18‑26 lbs., standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending, typing, and reaching with hands and arm.
    • Requires ability to communicate verbally and by telephone, and to taste and smell. Vision includes close, far, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
    • May need to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and up to 26 lbs. occasionally.
    • Performance may require quick movement in emergencies or while supervising students.
    • Must work outdoors in temperatures from
      -10°F to 100°F and in wet or humid conditions. Noise level moderate.
