Qualifications

Required:

1. WA State ESA Certificate with School Psychologist endorsement

2. Master's degree with strong background in developmental and/or educational psychology

3. Satisfactory Evaluations

Qualifications Preferred:

1. Knowledge of state laws regarding education of disabled students.

2. Experience and/or training working with disabled students, individually, small and large groups, in regular classroom and integrated settings.

3. Experience and/or training in:

* IEP case management and teaming.

* Implementing the State and Federal legal requirements for special education.

4. Willingness to obtain necessary training as required by job demands.

5. Working with students with a wide range of disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders, specific learning disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disorders.

6. Knowledge of federal laws regarding education of disabled students.

7. Demonstrated ability to provide consultation services to staff regarding special education issues and student behavioral issues.

8. Expertise in psychological assessment and report writing.

9. Demonstrated ability to share test data and implications with team members and synthesize this into written form.

10. Demonstrated ability to provide individual and group counseling.

11. Knowledge of current materials and curriculum being used in the field of special and regular education.

12. Demonstrated ability to develop specific remediation programs based on assessment results.

13. Evidence of previous positive recommendations and/or employment.

14.. Knowledge of and experience working within the Response to Intervention (RTI) model.

15. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with staff, students, and parents as evidenced in evaluations, and telephone references of co-workers.

16. A cooperative and sensitive attitude in working with students, parents, and school personnel.

17. Willingness to receive training on current trends in special education, such as Response to Intervention.

18. Familiarity with outside public and private medical, mental health, and social service resources.

19. Experience and knowledge of EALRS at appropriate grade levels, especially in reading, language arts, and math.

20. Punctual and consistent attendance.

Job Description

The school psychologist will:

1. Provide formal assessment of a child's abilities, learning styles, academic achievement, emotional development, aptitude and social skills.

2. Observe the effects of the classroom environment on the child.

3. Integrate the information obtained into an accurate and useful overview of the child's functional ability.

4. Assist the child in developing appropriate problem solving skills through individual or small group counseling.

5. Facilitate pre-referral and IEP team meetings that develop and monitor an individual program for the child.

6. Conduct functional behavior assessments.

7. Develop, implement, and evaluate behavior support plans.

8. Consult with building staff and administration regarding discipline and accommodations.

9. Facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized programs.

10. Refer and coordinate with outside agencies and professionals as needed.

11. Confer with teachers about the child's learning achievement, social/emotional development and individual needs.

12. Assist parents in recognizing the individual needs, strengths and limitations.

13. Work with other building based mental health professionals in a cooperative manner to provide support services to students.

14. Facilitate the assessment process and perform in the role of assessment team leader.

15. Implement the requirements of IDEA and other state and federal laws in accordance with Special Education.

16. Perform other duties as assigned.
