Location: Southridge High School
Hours: 6.75 hours per day, 180 Days per Year
The secretary in this position will primarily work in the attendance office. Duties will involve performing tasks to support the efficient operations of the attendance office and the activities office, caring for students in the health room using basic first aid procedures and administering students’ medicine. Other job‑related duties may be assigned.
Conditions of Employment- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web‑Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
- Demonstrated competency in verbal and written communication and excellent customer service skills.
- Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Must attend in‑service trainings or other meetings as required, and any training directed by management.
- Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
- Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
- Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and others regarding all aspects of job‑related activities.
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- Must be willing to become CPR/first‑aid certified if required.
- A minimum of one year work experience with computer/word processing.
- Evidence of accuracy and ability to meet deadlines.
- Effectively communicates and develops relationships with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and citizens.
- Successful experience working with secondary‑aged students, enjoyment of young people and sense of humor.
- Working knowledge of RCWs pertaining to attendance and discipline.
- Produce accurate results in an environment with regular interruptions and deadlines.
- Knowledge of set‑up and printing of labels and other word processing formats.
- Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality and dependability; evidence of self‑discipline and self‑starter qualities.
- Input computer entries for discipline and attendance.
- Verify attendance notes; call parents for attendance intervention.
- Assist with answering the telephone and answering messages for daily communications.
- Assist with health room coverage and administering medication.
- Prepare and mail attendance form letters each day.
- Assist with tracking, data entry, preparing and distributing discipline referrals.
- Assist with compiling student homework assignments.
- Utilize computer for word processing, emails, etc.
- Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Demands – The employee must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods, push or pull 18–26 lbs., sit, kneel, crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type and reach. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18–26 lbs. and lift overhead. The employee may be required to move quickly in an emergency or while supervising students.
Work Environment – The employee may work outdoors in temperatures ranging from –10°F to 100°F+ and may be exposed to wet or humid conditions. Noise level in this environment is moderate.
