Position #23195: Para/SS/1-1 for Student with Disability
Location: Chinook Middle School
Hours: 6.5 Hours per Day, 180 Days per Year
Salary: $22.61 – $26.02 per year (plus up to $0.60/hour based on college credits)
This position will commence with the school year. New hires may attend paid training days in August. The position is based on student/program need; location and hours may change as necessary.
Para educator responsibilities include: give reading instruction to students in a small group intervention and classroom setting. Carry out prescribed instructional programs under the direct supervision of certificated staff using specific reading intervention curriculum. Adapt materials, maintain records, administer and score reading assessments, supervise recess and lunchroom, and perform other para educator duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess an AA degree, 72 quarter college credits, 48 semester college credits, or a passing score on the ETS test.
- Must attach an unofficial transcript proving AA or equivalent to the application. Official transcripts for all levels of education, including high school, are required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must meet the physical demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Must complete Safe Schools Web-based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, including employee-paid fingerprinting.
- Ability to assist with catheterization and tube feeding of a student.
- Required academic skills to assist students (knowledge in sciences, language arts, math, reading, and social studies).
- Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Ability to take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attendance at in-service trainings, meetings, and other training as required.
- Ability to assess and correct safety issues.
- Ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative relationship with students, parents, staff, and management.
- Professional approach to work, teamwork, pride in service delivery, continuous improvement.
- Proficient communication in English, verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff, and others.
- Ability to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information, read and respond to email.
- Willingness to become first-aid certified if required.
- Recent experience working at the elementary school level with students with academic and special needs.
- Ability to relate effectively with children.
- Adaptability to unpredictability; flexibility, diplomacy, cooperation.
- Patience, enthusiasm, positive attitude toward working with elementary education students.
- Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations.
- Respect for confidentiality of sensitive student information.
- Ability to work independently and carry out assigned tasks.
- Proficiency with computer and other equipment.
- Effective communication and relationship building with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community.
- Strong interpersonal skills for small instructional groups, one-on-one, and student assessment environments.
- Willingness to attend building and district instructional trainings, protocols, and procedures.
- Positive evaluations and recommendations indicating character and work ethic.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; self-discipline and self-starter.
- Assist nurse with health needs of student, including catheterization and tube feeding.
- Assist students with educational needs, including in regular classroom reading and other areas as needed.
