Job DescriptionPosition #23263: Para/SS/Tier II Autism Program
Location: Hawthorne Elementary School
Hours: 6 Hours per Day, 180 Days per Year
Salary: $22.61 - $26.02 per hour
Earn up to $.60/hour extra, based on the number of college-level credits you have earned.
Open Date: 06/11/2026

Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to special education students in the Tier II Autism program.
- Provide support for physical/health needs of students as required.
- Assist teachers with needed clerical or instructional tasks.
- Assist with data collection.
- Implement prescribed strategies for behavioral interventions.
- Assist in supervision and control of students to promote a safe, orderly, positive learning climate.
- Complete required paperwork accurately to maintain compliance with state and school district regulations.
- Assist specialists (P.E., Music, Library) in supervision of special education students as required.
- Supervise students during recess times within the school day.
- Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required.
- Demonstrate ability to assess and correct safety issues.
- Establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff and management.
- Approach assigned work professionally, focusing on teamwork, service pride, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate sufficient command of English to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff and other concerned parties.
- Use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read/respond to email.
- Be first aid certified or willing to acquire training promptly.
- Physically able to supervise Tier II Autism students during recess and PE/musical classes.
- Proficiency in word processing and computer use.
- Experience working with students with Autism.
- Knowledge of prescribed instructional and behavioral management programs.
- Knowledge of intervention procedures and data collection.
- Ability to model appropriate behaviors and provide consistent interventions.
- Patience and warmth in working with students; remains calm during crisis.
- Capability to monitor multiple students and respond quickly with good judgment.
- Maintain documentation of student IEP goals and objectives.
- Physically capable of holding/restraining students using CPI techniques.
- Positive performance evaluations and recommendations.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self-discipline, and initiative.
- Experience in team teaching situations.
- Ability to:
- cope with unpredictability;
- be flexible, diplomatic, and cooperative with varied demands;
- demonstrate patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude toward working with students with behavior disorders and other disabling conditions;
- maintain composure in difficult situations;
- communicate effectively and work with a variety of people.
- Mobility: Regularly required to stand, walk for prolonged periods, push/pull up to 50 lbs., sit, kneel, crouch, twist, and bend.
- Sense: Required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds; to use vision and other senses for communication and safety.
- Lifting: Must lift or move up to 50 lbs., and up to 100 lbs. with help; lift overhead.
- Physical Hazards: Work outdoors over a range of temperatures, may be exposed to wet/humid conditions; moderate noise level.
