Training RequirementCOMPLETION OF SAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASED TRAINING IS REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
Required Qualifications- Valid Washington State teacher's certificate with endorsement in Library Media
- Satisfactory evaluations
- Elementary teaching experience
- Learning Resources endorsement
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer science, ability to implement computerized library circulation system and lead computer implementation school wide
- Demonstrated ability to work with students of all ability levels: pre-primer to highly capable
- Demonstrated knowledge of the curriculum content areas as they relate to elementary education
- Ability to work with parents and staff in planning library curriculum and materials selection
- Demonstrated knowledge of the grant process and ability for leadership in this area if needed
- Ability to organize school-wide reading events
- Demonstrated ability to interact positively with staff, students and parents
- Evidence of ability to support building and district goals, including working with groups of children across grade levels pre-5
- Willingness to make school-wide decisions based on "what's best for kids"
- Willingness to create an Accelerated Reader school-wide reading program and coordinate with staff members and PTO to enhance program
- Demonstrate ability to keep library neat, orderly, and presentable to staff and community members at all times
- Punctual and consistent attendance
- Motivates and inspires the reading of children’s literature through a variety of activities
- Works with individual and small groups on information skills, reference work, book selection and other independent activities
- Organizes and promotes interest areas within the center
- Teach units of information skills
- Demonstrates the proper use of technology in the instructional process
- Develops a climate that encourages students to take full advantage of the resource center and keeps faculty and students informed about new books, materials, equipment and services
- Plans and administers the school curricula program: selects print and non-print materials that are of interest and motivating to its users; selects the best available print and non-print materials to supplement the school’s curriculum; supervises the cataloging and/or processing of all incoming materials to ensure maximum availability; evaluates the collection of materials annually
- Consults with staff to plan for maximum center utilization
- Supervises and trains library helpers (para educators, secretaries, parents, students, and volunteers)
- Prepares and monitors library budget and reports
- Utilizes the latest technology in the circulation and management of library/media materials
- Provides leadership, organization, coordination, and monitoring for the Accelerated Reader Program
- Provide support reading instruction up to one hour per day, if needed
- Other duties as assigned
