COMPLETION OF SAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASED TRAINING IS REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

Qualifications Required
  • Valid Washington State Teacher's Certificate with endorsement in Special Education
  • Satisfactory Evaluations
Qualifications Preferred
  • Provide basic education assistance in core subject areas and prepare lessons in reading and math
  • At least one full year successful school teaching experience with satisfactory evaluations within the last five years
  • Demonstrated success in managing and modifying disruptive student behaviors, executive functioning deficits, and social/personal/responsibility behaviors associated with students with learning disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with MDT and Community Based Learning Sites
  • Knowledge of teaching reading, writing and math Common Core Standards to special need students
  • Participate in team teaching situations with general educators
  • Training and experience in curriculum development
  • Training and experience utilizing computer technology for word processing, spreadsheet activities, presentation, grading, recording attendance, communicating by e-mail, and implementing these into daily classroom use
  • Ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on individual learning styles in regular classroom and integrated settings
  • Maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues
  • Demonstrated leadership in professional activities related to special education
  • Punctual and consistent attendance
Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for educational programming of students with learning disabilities in grades K-5 as placed by the district in the program
  • Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence of preparation upon request
  • Participate in the development of an integrated curriculum with other curricular area classes and implement into instruction
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs)
  • Maintain current IEPs and monthly student information reports and serve as the IEP case manager for students on their caseload
  • Plan appropriate programs for students in conjunction with Multidisciplinary Team members and parents
  • Write goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth
  • Regularly monitor progress of students, making changes in programming if appropriate
  • Assume responsibility for productive use of a classroom educational assistant
  • Communicate regularly and proactively with students and parents regarding progress and behavior
  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with others
  • Attend and participate in faculty and team meetings
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and family information
  • Consult with administrators, regular education teachers, community agencies, the court system, and specialists regarding educational programming of students with disabilities as appropriate
  • Work with school and district level experts in designing a personal, social and responsibility program best fitting the needs of the students
  • Assume responsibility for the resource position in dual language programs/classrooms
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Physical Demands

    Movements: stand and walk for prolonged periods, push/pull 18-26 lbs, sit, kneel, crouch, twist, bend, use hands to type and handle. Reach with hands and arms.

    Sense: talk/hear conversations; communicate effectively in person and telephone. Taste and smell. Vision: close, far, color, peripheral, depth perception; adjust focus.

    Lifting: lift or move up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 26 lbs occasionally; lift overhead. May need to move quickly in emergencies or supervise students.

    Environment: outdoors in temperatures from
    -10°F to 100°F+, wet/humid conditions; moderate noise level.
