Position: CL23229: Para/SS/Tier II Behavioral Program - Edison

Starting Date: Immediately

Location: Edison Elementary School, Kennewick, Washington

Hours: 6 hours per day, 180 days per year

Salary: $22.61 – $26.02 per collective bargaining agreement. Earn up to $0.60 per hour extra based on college‑level credits earned.

Position #23229:
Para/SS/Tier II Behavioral Program. The position will begin with the 2026‑2027 school year. New hires may attend paid training days in August. Hours may increase or decrease as necessary based on student/program need.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to special education students in the Tier II Behavior program.
  • Provide support for physical/health needs of students as required.
  • Assist teachers with clerical or instructional tasks.
  • Assist with data collection.
  • Implement prescribed behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Assist in supervision and control of students to promote a safe, orderly, positive learning climate.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and efficiently to maintain compliance with state and district regulations.
  • Assist specialists (P.E., Music, Library) in supervising special education students as required.
  • Make parent contacts and attend student update meetings.
  • Supervise students during recess times within the school day.
  • Perform all duties per Kennewick School District policies, including regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
  • Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Must pass a basic skills test.
  • Completion of Safe Schools web‑based training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  • Must pass a background check, including paid fingerprinting.
  • CPI training (Level I and II) must be obtained at the next available opportunity.
Qualifications – Required
  • Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Attend in‑service trainings or meetings as required, including training directed by management.
  • Demonstrate ability to assess and correct safety issues.
  • Establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, and management.
  • Approach assigned work professionally, working toward teamwork, pride in service delivery, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate sufficient English language command for verbal and written communication.
  • Use basic computer programs for records, timecards, and email.
  • Be first‑aid certified or willing to obtain first‑aid training promptly.
  • Physically able to supervise Development Therapy and general‑education students during recess, PE, and music classes.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Proficiency in word processing and computer use.
  • Experience with behaviorally disabled students and early childhood/elementary children.
  • Knowledge of prescribed instructional and behavioral management programs.
  • Knowledge of intervention procedures with students.
  • Model appropriate behaviors and provide consistent intervention procedures.
  • Patience and warmth when working with students; remain calm in crisis.
  • Ability to be aware of multiple students during varied activities and respond quickly with good judgment.
  • Maintain ongoing documentation of student IEP goals and objectives.
  • Physically able to lift/restrain elementary‑aged students as needed.
  • Positive performance evaluations and recommendations.
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; self‑disciplined and self‑starter.
  • Experience in “team teaching” situations.
  • Demonstrate ability to: a) cope with unpredictability; b) be flexible, diplomatic and cooperative; c) demonstrate patience, enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward…
