Salary: $22.61–$26.02 per hour (plus up to $0.60/hour bonus for college credits)

Job DescriptionThe para educator will provide reading instruction in a small‑group intervention room and classroom, following prescribed instructional programs under the direct supervision of certificated staff. Duties also include adapting instructional materials, maintaining records, administering and scoring reading assessments, supervising recess and lunchroom, and other para educator responsibilities as assigned.
Responsibilities- Assist nurse with student health needs, including catheterization and tube feeding.
- Support students in reading and other academic areas in classroom and small‑group settings.
- Implement reading instruction as directed by certificated staff.
- Prepare instructional materials and read assessments.
- Maintain accurate student records and documentation.
- Participate in staff and program in‑services.
- Provide clerical assistance when needed.
- Supervise students to maintain a safe, orderly learning environment.
- Follow Kennewick School District policies, procedures, and attendance expectations.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate degree or 72 quarter/48 semester credits or ETS passing score.
- Attach unofficial transcript with AA or equivalent to application; official transcripts required within 30 days of hire.
- Meet physical demands and provide reasonable accommodation if needed.
- Pass basic skills test.
- Complete Safe Schools Web‑Based training within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.
- Pass background check with employee‑paid fingerprinting.
- Assist with student catheterization and tube feeding.
- Strong academic knowledge in sciences, language arts, math, reading, and social studies.
- Adhere to board policies and administrative procedures.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, and materials.
- Attend required in‑service trainings and other meetings.
- Identify and correct safety issues.
- Build cooperative, effective relationships with students, parents, staff, and management.
- Demonstrate professional conduct toward teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Effective written and verbal communication in English.
- Use basic computer programs for record keeping and timecard entries.
- Willingness to obtain first‑aid certification if required.
- Recent experience at elementary levels with students having academic and special needs.
- Effective communication with children and diverse student populations.
- Flexibility, diplomacy, and cooperation in unpredictable situations.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and positive attitude toward elementary education.
- Respect for confidential student information.
- Independent work ability and task completion.
- Computer and equipment proficiency.
- Strong interpersonal skills for small‑group instruction and assessment settings.
- Team collaboration and adaptive instruction guidance.
- Attendance, punctuality, and self‑discipline.
- Positive evaluations and recommendations supporting character and work ethic.
- Mobility: frequent standing, walking, pushing/pulling up to 26 lbs., bending, twisting, reaching.
- Sense: hearing, speaking, tasting, smelling, vision (close/far/color/peripheral).
- Lifting: up to 50 lbs., overhead lift and quick movement during emergency.
- Outdoor work in temperatures ranging from –10°F to 100°F, wet/humid conditions, moderate noise.
