Job Description
Position #23273: Para/SS/Tier II Autism Program
Location: Westgate Elementary School
Hours: 6 Hours per Day, 180 Days per Year
Salary: $22.61 - $26.02 per hour
Earn up to $.60/hour extra based on college-level credits earned.
Start date:
Immediately.
Open date: 06/17/2026.
Final date to receive applications: 06/25/2026 at 10:00 PM (or until filled).
Position is based on student/program need; hours may vary.
Conditions of Employment- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
- Must attach an unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to the application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Must complete Safe Schools Web–Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee–paid fingerprinting.
- Must obtain CPI training at the next available opportunity. Level I and II required.
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attend in‑service trainings or other meetings as required, and attend any training directed by management.
- Show evidence of ability to assess and correct safety issues.
- Show evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative relationship with students, parents, staff, and management.
- Show evidence of ability to approach assigned work professionally, focusing on teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate sufficient command over the English language for verbal and written communication.
- Be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information, and read/respond to email.
- Be first‑aid certified or willing to obtain first‑aid training ASAP.
- Physically able and willing to supervise Tier II Autism and general education students at recess, PE, and music classes.
- Proficiency in word processing and computer use.
- Successful work experience with students with Autism.
- Knowledge of prescribed instructional and behavioral management programs.
- Knowledge of intervention procedures and data collection.
- Ability to model appropriate behaviors and provide consistent intervention procedures.
- Patience and warmth in working with students, remaining calm in crisis.
- Ability to monitor multiple students and respond quickly with good judgment.
- Maintain ongoing documentation of student IEP goals and objectives.
- Physically able to hold and/or restrain students as needed using CPI techniques.
- Positive performance evaluations and recommendations.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; self‑disciplined and a self‑starter.
- Experience in team teaching situations.
- Demonstrated ability to cope with unpredictability, be flexible, diplomatic, and cooperative; maintain composure in difficult situations; communicate effectively with a variety of people.
- Provide direct support to special education students in the Tier II Autism program.
- Provide support for physical/health needs of students as required.
- Assist teachers with clerical or instructional tasks.
- Assist with data collection.
- Implement prescribed strategies for behavioral interventions.
- Assist in supervision and control of students to promote a safe, orderly, positive learning environment.
- Complete required paperwork accurately and efficiently to maintain compliance with state and school district regulations.
- Assist specialists (P.E., Music, Library) in supervising special education students as required.
- Supervise students during recess times.
- Perform all duties in accordance with district policies and procedures, including attendance and punctuality.
