Job Description
COMPLETION OF SAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASED TRAINING IS REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
Qualifications Required- Valid Washington State Teacher's Certificate with endorsement in Special Education
- Satisfactory evaluations
- Ability to provide basic education assistance in core subject areas and prepare lessons
- At least one full year of successful school teaching experience with satisfactory evaluations within the last five years
- Success in managing and modifying disruptive student behaviors, executive functioning deficits, and social/personal/responsibility behaviors associated with students with autism
- Collaborative work with MDT and Community Based Learning Sites
- Knowledge and experience teaching the six trait writing model and math Common Core Standards to special need students
- Participation in team teaching situations with general educators
- Experience in curriculum development
- Experience utilizing computer technology for word processing, spreadsheet activities, presentations, grading, attendance recording, e‑mail communication, and integration into daily classroom use
- Ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on individual learning styles in the regular classroom and integrated settings
- Maintenance of a positive, productive learning climate with students, parents, and colleagues
- Leadership in professional activities related to special education
- Experience in developing career awareness in students, applying skills, aptitudes, and interests to researching specific careers
- Punctual and consistent attendance
- Be responsible for the educational programming of students with autism in grades 9‑12 as placed by the district
- Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request
- Participate in the development of an integrated curriculum with other curricular area classes and its implementation into instruction
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) including school‑to‑work transition components
- Maintain current IEPs and monthly student information reports; serve as the IEP case manager for students on the caseload
- Plan appropriate programs for students in conjunction with MDT members and parents
- Write goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth
- Regularly monitor student progress, making appropriate changes in programming
- Assume responsibility for the productive use of classroom educational assistants
- Communicate regularly and pro‑actively with students and parents regarding progress and behavior
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with others
- Attend and participate in faculty and team meetings
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations
- Maintain confidentiality of student and family information
- Consult with administrators, regular education teachers, community agencies, the court system, and specialists about the educational programming of students with disabilities
- Work with school and district level experts in designing personal, social, and responsibility programs to best fit the needs of students in the program
