Job Description

The para educator in this position will provide reading instruction to students in a small group intervention room and classroom. They will implement prescribed instructional programs under the direct supervision and training of certificated staff using a specific reading intervention curriculum. Other duties include adapting and making materials suitable for instructional needs, maintaining accurate records, administering and scoring reading assessments, recess and lunchroom supervision, and other para educator duties as assigned.

Earn up to $.60 per hour extra based on the number of college‑level credits earned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
  • Must attach an unofficial transcript proving AA or equivalent to the application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, are required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Must pass a basic skills test.
  • Completion of Safe Schools Web‑Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  • Must pass a background check, which includes employer‑paid fingerprinting.
Qualifications Required
  • Must be able to assist with catheterization and tube feeding of students.
  • Required academic skills to assist students (knowledge in sciences, language arts, math, reading, and social studies).
  • Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Must take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Must attend in‑service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training directed by management.
  • Evidence of ability to assess and correct safety issues.
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative, and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, employees, and management.
  • Evidence of ability to approach assigned work professionally, working toward teamwork, pride in service delivery, and continuous improvement.
  • Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter time‑card information, and read and respond to email.
  • Must be willing to become first‑aid certified if required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recent experience working at the elementary school level with students with academic and special needs.
  • Ability to relate effectively with children.
  • Ability to cope with unpredictability; be flexible, diplomatic, and cooperative.
  • Demonstrate patience, enthusiasm, and positive attitude toward working with elementary‑education students.
  • Value the confidential nature of sensitive student information.
  • Can work independently and carry out assigned tasks.
  • Can operate computer and other equipment as necessary.
  • Effective communicator and developer of relationships with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for small instructional student groups, one‑on‑one, and student assessment environments.
  • Willing to work in team settings and adapt to guided instruction.
  • Willing to attend building and district instructional trainings, protocols, and procedures.
  • Positive evaluations and recommendations indicating character and work ethic.
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; self‑starter and self‑disciplined.
Job Responsibilities
