Job Description

Position #VI23093: 2nd Grade Teacher (Leave Replacement for 26/27 SY)(REPOST)

Prepare students for building, district, and state assessments; develop and deliver instruction based on the school’s adopted curriculum; collaborate with colleagues to plan, implement, and evaluate instruction; maintain a safe and productive classroom environment; support individualized learning; assist with school rules and use technology appropriately.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare students for building, district, and state assessments.
  • Plan classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Teach according to the school's adopted curriculum with fidelity.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in enforcing school rules and administrative regulations.
  • Attend and participate in faculty in-service, trainings, and meetings.
  • Be flexible with schedule changes to accommodate staff and community needs.
  • Maintain good classroom management.
  • Work collaboratively with para educators and other teachers to devise appropriate instruction for all students.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Qualifications

    Required:

    • Valid Washington State teacher’s certificate appropriate for elementary education.
    • Successful evaluations (satisfactory).

    Preferred:

    • Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels with individualized learning styles, documented by evaluations and/or references.
    • Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate and relationships with parents and colleagues.
    • Recent successful primary teaching experience with culturally diverse children.
    • Training and/or experience with the Origo Stepping Stones Series.
    • Training and/or experience with the Journeys Reading Series.
    • Training and/or experience with Reading Mastery, Corrective Reading, and other Direct Instruction supplemental programs.
    • Experience working effectively with a range of ability levels using the RTI model.
    • Ability to serve as a team member in planning, curriculum development, grade level responsibilities, RTI implementation, and building responsibilities.
    • Training and/or experience in using technology as an instructional tool.
    • Training and/or experience administering various assessment tools (MAP & DIBELS) with rubrics.
    • Experience and/or training with Step Up to Writing.
    • Experience and/or training in the Make Your Day discipline program, with willingness to implement it with fidelity.
    • Evidence of successful communication with school staff, parents, and students.
    • Willingness to actively participate in PLC meetings.
    • Punctual and consistent attendance.
    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    Stand, walk, and move for prolonged periods; lift or move up to 26 lbs.; use hands to type and handle materials; stand, kneel, crouch, twist, and bend. Work outdoors in temperatures ranging from
    -10°F to 100°F+; tolerate wet/humid conditions. Typical noise level is moderate.
