Our goals for the dual-language program are to develop high levels of proficiency in Spanish and English in all students, have them attain the WA state Seal of Biliteracy, meet grade-level academic standards in both languages, and develop sociocultural competence.
Responsibilities- Work cooperatively with grade-level teachers, specialists, staff and administrators to develop and implement school-wide simultaneous literacy strategies through team-teaching, collaborative planning, and research-based best practice.
- Plan and implement professional development aligned with student growth models, manage formative assessments and support implementation of district curriculum, bilingual unit frameworks and strategies.
- Prepare students for building, district and state assessments.
- Prepare and document class assignments, and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Provide effective instruction in accordance with the school’s bilingual unit frameworks and curricular materials with fidelity.
- Use Purpose, Engagement, Rigor and Results (PERR) in daily planning and instruction.
- Serve as a team player, establishing cooperative professional relationships with colleagues.
- Maintain open communication with students, parents and colleagues.
- Protect students, equipment, materials and facilities and enforce school rules.
- Participate in faculty in-service training and committee meetings; attend assigned school committees.
- Cooperate with staff to set instructional goals and plans.
- Encourage parent involvement and maintain positive relationships.
- Explore and implement curriculum and teaching strategies adopted by the school.
- Support district and building goals through planning, training and evaluating programs and curricula.
- Assess students in reading, math and writing per district and school plans.
- Provide specific reading remediation as determined by assessment tools.
- Adapt schedule for staff and community use.
- Maintain classroom management.
- Collaborate with para educators to provide appropriate instruction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Valid Washington State teacher’s certificate with endorsement in Elementary Education.
- Bilingual/Biliterate in Spanish (must pass STAMP test).
- Satisfactory evaluations.
- Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels with appropriate learning styles.
- Evidence of a positive, productive learning climate in the classroom and with parents and colleagues.
- Experience teaching culturally diverse elementary students.
- Recent coursework (within last 5 years) in reading/language arts, social studies, and science.
- Strong communication with school staff, parents and students.
- Training in using GLAD, Clear Math Series, Benchmark Advance and/or Adelante Reading Curriculum.
- Training in Biliteracy Unit Frameworks and simultaneous bilingual teaching.
- Experience with RTI model and diverse ability levels.
- Team-member experience in curriculum development and building responsibilities.
- Technology integration as an instructional tool.
- Experience administering assessments such as WIDA and STAR performance assessments.
- Instruction of writing to elementary students.
- Punctual and consistent attendance.
- Regular standing, walking, lifting/pushing up to 26 lbs, kneeling, typing and hand use.
- Must communicate orally over phone and in person; must have vision and hearing adequate for job functions.
- Must lift up to 10 lbs routinely and up to 26 lbs sometimes; lift overhead when required.
- Work outdoors in temperatures ranging from
-10°F to 100°F+; exposure to wet/humid conditions possible; noise level moderate. - Must complete Safe Schools web-based training as a condition of employment.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
