Position #23229: Para/SS/Tier II Behavioral Program
Location: Edison Elementary School
Hours: 6 Hours per Day, 180 Days per Year
Salary: $22.61 - $26.02 per hour with up to $0.60 extra based on college-level credits earned.
Job DescriptionThis position will involve working with students with behavior difficulties and supervising students who have special needs. The para educator works as a team with the special education teacher, other para educators, and specialists. Responsibilities include carrying out educational instruction, providing documentation to monitor student progress, and performing all duties in scope of district policies and procedures. Other job-related duties will be performed as assigned.
Responsibilities- Provide direct support to special education students in the Tier II Behavior program.
- Provide support for physical/health needs of students as required.
- Assist teachers with needed clerical or instructional tasks.
- Assist with data collection.
- Implement prescribed strategies for behavioral interventions.
- Assist in supervision and control of students to promote a safe, orderly, positive learning climate.
- Complete required paperwork accurately and efficiently to maintain compliance.
- Assist specialists (P.E., Music, Library) in supervision of special education students as required.
- Make parent contacts and attend student update meetings.
- Supervise students during recess times within the school day.
- Perform all duties within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have an AA degree or equivalent credit requirements (72 quarter credits, 48 semester credits, or a passing score on the ETS test).
- Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent at application; official transcripts required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Must complete Safe Schools web‑based training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check including employee‑paid fingerprinting.
- Must obtain CPI training (Level I and II) at the next available opportunity.
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attend required in‑service trainings or meetings.
- Demonstrate ability to assess and correct safety‑related issues.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with students, parents, staff, and management.
- Approach assigned work professionally, aiming for teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate sufficient command of English for verbal and written communication.
- Use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard info, and respond to email.
- Be first‑aid certified or willing to acquire certification promptly.
- Physical ability and willingness to supervise Development Therapy and general education students during recess and PE/music classes.
- Proficiency in word processing and computer use.
- Experience working with behaviorally disabled students, early childhood, and elementary level children.
- Knowledge of prescribed instructional and behavioral management programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of intervention procedures.
- Ability to model appropriate behaviors and provide consistent intervention.
- Patience and warmth, and ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
- Ability to be aware of multiple students in varying activities and respond quickly with good judgment.
- Maintain ongoing documentation of student IEP goals and objectives.
- Physical ability to lift and/or restrain elementary‑aged students as needed.
- Positive performance evaluations and recommendations.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self‑discipline, and self‑starter attitude.
